Job Title

Upholds the Core Values as determined by the management team. Primary responsibility is to Amaze Every Customer Every Time. Sales associates are responsible for engaging the customer, determining their needs, and projecting requirements. Other responsibilities include managing shelves and inventory, maintaining the overall appearance and cleanliness of the store, and providing customers with fast and friendly service at the cash register area.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Help unload incoming trucks and put away merchandise (as arranged by management). Maintain your assigned department: Keep clean, organized and fully stocked.
  2. Execute the daily operational, day-to-day goals and priorities assigned by store management displaying a "Speed is Life" attitude. Move with a sense of urgency while paying attention to the details.
  3. Cooperate with others and work well as part of a retail team, for example actively participate in daily huddle meetings, share ideas for improvement with management.
  4. Remove promotional bin tags from displays, and price tags as required following sales events, flyers, etc.
  5. Restock merchandise displays as needed, watch end caps and side wings.
  6. Handle special orders for all non-stock items. It always takes two associates to say "No." Never tell a customer no without checking with a floor manager, assistant manager or store manager.
  7. Watch for shoplifters and take action, in line with company policy, that will discourage shoplifting. Excellent customer service and interaction prevents shoplifting.
  8. Provide the best possible experience for Every Customer, Every Time by being helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly.
  9. When you are not with a customer or cleaning, stand in a main aisle to get the best view of customers coming into your department.
  10. Serve Customers in assigned departments, or storewide, and provide needed advice or information, greet customers as soon as you encounter them.
  11. Demonstrate the S.A.L.E.S. process
  12. Use the Five Foot Rule greet and/or acknowledge all customers within five feet of you all the time.
  13. Always be polite and attentive to customers. Make eye contact and smile.
  14. Promote the Ace Rewards program to all customers, describe the Ace Helpful Promise(s) and use the Magic Question.
  15. Always wear your radio and headset in order to effectively communicate with other associates or management.
  16. Assist customers with large or heavy items as needed.
  17. Operates forklift, as needed, in a safe manner for the purpose of stocking and storing product.
  18. Offer customers a red basket for their shopping use.
  19. Assist in the training and development of peers
  20. Precisely and accurately handle money, checks, and other types of payment received for product sold including processing refunds and/or issuing in store merchandise credit to customers for returned merchandise.
  21. Perform credit card transactions, manufacturer coupon redemption, personal check acceptance, vendor check-in transactions in accordance with company standards and policies and practices.
  22. Verify the accuracy of the cash drawer at the beginning and end of each shift, and immediately notify your manager on duty of any inaccuracies
  23. Be knowledgeable and actively participate in all sales promotions and other campaigns.
  24. Practice suggestive selling and build customer relations.
  25. Be aware of sales goals and performance against those goals.
  26. Review and adhere to all city, county, state, and federal laws affecting store operations.
  27. Always maintain a neat personal appearance and wear company uniform and nametag.
  28. Address customer complaints in a positive manner. Document complaints for follow up by Store Manager when necessary.
  29. Ensure that your work area is free of litter and spills and that all equipment is sanitized and free of dirt, as well as ensuring that all equipment is in working condition.
  30. Face, front, and dust merchandise near register area.
  31. Follow company policies and procedures for all transactions.
  32. Review and adhere to store safety/emergency procedures critical telephone numbers and incident reporting forms and protocol.
  33. Perform regular cleaning of counter surfaces, store equipment, restrooms and other duties as assigned
  34. Participate in all store sales building, customer service, and team-building activities.
  35. Actively participate in store communication and initiatives (e.g., Communication Board, Daily Huddle, store contests, etc.)
  36. Live and exemplify company's core values

Job Qualifications

  • Cashier experience in a similar position or proficiency in a similar task
  • Exceptional customer service skills & the ability to help maintain a customer focused culture
  • Ability to use a cash register (point of sale or POS system), computer, telephone, and other equipment as needed
  • Willingness to learn all areas of the store and help train others
  • Skilled at providing prompt, friendly, and attentive customer service
  • Ability to work as part of a team and interact with customers of various socioeconomic levels, persons in differing company roles, vendors, guests, and ACE corporate representatives.
  • A continuous pattern of regular and prompt attendance is required.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule of nights, days, weekends, and holidays
  • Bilingual (Spanish) verbal and written communication skills is a plus
