Material Handler (Aerospace Industry)
AS9100-Certified Materials Handler
**Location: **Chantilly, VA
**Contract: **8 months with potential for extension or direct hire
**Schedule: **9/80 Schedule (7am start time)
**Compensation: **$25-26/hour, optional PTO and Benefits
Aerospace / Government Contract Manufacturing Environment
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and AS9100-certified Materials Handler with prior experience supporting government contracts in a regulated aerospace or defense manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for ensuring compliant receipt, storage, traceability, system transactions, and distribution of materials while maintaining strict adherence to AS9100 standards and government contract requirements.
The ideal candidate brings progressive materials management experience, including hands-on ERP/system transaction processing, inventory control ownership, and audit-ready documentation practices. This individual will play a critical role in maintaining material integrity, traceability, and compliance within a highly regulated production environment.
Key Responsibilities
Materials Management & Inventory Control
- Receive, inspect, and verify incoming materials against purchase orders, contracts, and shipping documentation.
- Ensure materials meet government contract flow-down requirements and traceability standards.
- Properly identify, label, and store materials in accordance with AS9100 and contract specifications.
- Maintain full lot and serial number traceability throughout the material lifecycle.
- Perform routine cycle counts and inventory audits; investigate and resolve discrepancies.
- Support material issuance to production while maintaining strict documentation and control procedures.
ERP & System Transactions
- Execute material transactions within ERP/MRP systems (receipts, transfers, issues, adjustments).
- Ensure accuracy of system entries to maintain inventory integrity and audit compliance.
- Support material status updates, disposition tracking, and controlled inventory movement.
- Reconcile physical inventory with system records and support corrective actions as needed.
- Participate in continuous improvement of system workflows and inventory controls.
Government Contract & AS9100 Compliance
- Demonstrate working knowledge of government contract requirements, including flow-down clauses and documentation controls.
- Ensure material handling processes align with AS9100 quality management standards and contract-specific compliance requirements.
- Maintain audit readiness for customer, internal, and regulatory audits.
- Support documentation requests related to traceability, certifications, and contract compliance.
- Collaborate with Quality Assurance to address non-conformances and implement corrective actions.
Documentation & Record Management
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of all material receipts, transfers, and shipments.
- Prepare and review:
- Packing lists
- Bills of lading
- Certificates of conformance
- Inventory and traceability reports
- Ensure all documentation is complete, accurate, and compliant with regulatory and contractual requirements.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Procurement, Production, Program Management, and Quality teams to support contract execution.
- Communicate material shortages, delays, and compliance concerns proactively.
- Support production schedules through accurate and timely material processing.
- Assist in resolving material-related risks that could impact program timelines or compliance.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required (additional certifications preferred).
- AS9100 certification required.
- Demonstrated experience supporting government contracts in aerospace or defense manufacturing environments.
- Progressive materials management experience, including increasing responsibility in inventory control and system transactions.
- Hands-on experience with ERP/MRP systems and material transaction processing.
- Strong understanding of traceability, lot control, and compliance documentation.
- Experience participating in internal and external audits.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Detail-oriented with strong commitment to accuracy and quality.
- Ability to lift/move materials and safely operate material handling equipment.
- Familiarity with Lean principles and continuous improvement preferred.
