Senior Systems Security Engineer

Position Type: Full-Time AERMOR is seeking a Senior Systems Security Engineer to provide expert-level cybersecurity and information assurance support for Department of Defense (DoD) and U.S. Navy systems. The individual will lead efforts in vulnerability and risk assessment, system hardening, and compliance verification to ensure systems meet DoD cybersecurity standards. Responsibilities include conducting SCAP scans, applying DISA Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs), managing accreditation processes, and leading TEMPEST testing in accordance with the National TEMPEST Standard. Responsibilities:
- Conduct system vulnerability and risk analyses to identify potential threats and develop mitigation strategies.
- Perform SCAP scans, analyze results, and implement corrective actions to maintain compliance.
- Apply DISA STIGs to secure systems, applications, and network environments against known vulnerabilities.
- Perform antivirus scans and identify/remediate harmful or unauthorized software.
- Lead system security audits, prepare accreditation packages, and support certification and authorization (C&A) processes.
- Conduct and lead TEMPEST testing using approved test plans, production test procedures, and current National TEMPEST Standards.
- Collaborate with system administrators, engineers, and cybersecurity personnel to maintain compliant and secure operating environments.
- Support development of system security plans (SSPs), risk management frameworks (RMF) documentation, and related artifacts.
- Monitor system security posture, assess compliance against DoD and Navy requirements, and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Document all test results, findings, and risk mitigation actions in accordance with established policies.
- Six (6) years of professional experience in IT security within the Department of Defense (DoD) or U.S. Navy.
- Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity or similar discipline is highly desired.
- Information Assurance Technical (IAT) Level III certification is required.
- Experience performing vulnerability and risk analyses, including SCAP scans and DISA STIG implementation.
- Experience conducting antivirus and malware detection scans to protect against software threats.
- Qualified experience in system accreditation, security audits, and certification processes.
- Experience leading TEMPEST testing using approved plans and compliance with the National TEMPEST Standard.
- Strong understanding of cybersecurity frameworks, DoD RMF processes, and system hardening techniques.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and documentation skills.
