Position Title: Accounts Payable Specialist

Location: Lorton, VA (On-site)

Assignment type: Permanent Hire

Compensation: $70,000 – $80,000 / year

Work Schedule: M–F, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Job Description:

Our client is seeking an experienced Accounts Payable Specialist to join a growing organization and play a key role in managing high-volume AP operations. This is a hands-on position in a fast-paced environment that requires strong attention to detail, deep knowledge of construction-related payables, and the ability to work independently while supporting a collaborative accounting team.

This role will initially focus on full-cycle accounts payable and offers long-term growth opportunities into additional administrative responsibilities. The position includes a structured cross-training period with a long-tenured team member to ensure a smooth transition.

Key Responsibilities:

• Process 500–800 invoices per month with accuracy and efficiency

• Review, verify, and match invoices to purchase orders, contracts, and receiving documentation

• Code invoices to appropriate jobs, cost codes, and general ledger accounts

• Ensure compliance with subcontract documentation, including lien waivers, retainage tracking, insurance, and W-9 records

• Resolve invoice discrepancies and respond to vendor and internal inquiries promptly

• Prepare and process check runs, ACH, and wire payments

• Maintain organized AP records and documentation

• Reconcile vendor statements and follow up on outstanding items

• Support month-end close processes, including accruals and AP aging analysis

• Assist with audit requests and documentation

• Identify opportunities to improve AP processes and internal controls

Qualifications:

• 8+ years of accounts payable experience within the construction industry

• Proven ability to handle high invoice volume in a deadline-driven environment

• Strong understanding of job costing and construction payables processes

• Intermediate Excel skills and strong attention to detail

• Ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively

• Strong communication skills and professional vendor interaction

• Preferred:

• Experience with Sage or similar ERP/accounting systems

• Experience working in small to mid-sized organizations
