Job Description
The Principal Actuary supports the development of actuarial concepts and provides thought leadership for Prime’s existing and potential owners and clients. Working closely with the Senior Principal Actuary, the role provides strategic consulting, manages innovative actuarial modeling, and offers pricing support across all lines of business. It also leads complex, high-visibility projects for executives and cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate as an SME with underwriters, other Prime teams, and senior management on pricing initiatives, data analyses, and the RFP process.
- Lead, manage, and review data analyses, reporting, and projections.
- Conduct ad‑hoc complex pharmacy data mining and analyses to investigate and answer challenging actuarial questions.
- Provide strategic pricing advice on structures and methodology using market research, financial projections, and complex actuarial modeling.
- Present results and analyses to key stakeholders, senior management, and clients, answering detailed questions regarding actuarial data.
- Lead and mentor Actuarial team members to enhance their knowledge.
- Monitor the health‑policy environment and assess its implications for pricing policies, laws, and political changes that may impact client programs.
- Ensure all work complies with federal regulations and actuarial standards, as applicable.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Math, Actuarial Science, Economics, or Finance.
- 8 years of actuarial work experience, including 6 years in a healthcare organization or PBM.
- Actuarial designation (ASA or FSA).
- Eligible to work in the United States without a work visa or sponsorship.
Additional Qualifications
- Advanced proficiency in Excel; intermediate proficiency in SAS, SQL, or VBA.
- Excellent quantitative, problem‑solving, and analytical skills.
- Strong project management and organizational skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong client consulting presence.
- Excellent presentation and facilitation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- 8 years of actuarial experience in a healthcare organization or PBM.
- Experience pricing Commercial, Medicare, or Medicaid lines of business.
- 5 years of experience in SAS, SQL, or VBA.
- Experience in model building and underwriting or risk‑adjusted rate setting.
- Experience designing and implementing innovative solutions to complex pharmacy benefit challenges.
Possible salary range: $124,000.00 – $211,000.00 based on experience and skills.
