PCU Registered Nurse Job Details

• Location: Roanoke, VA 24014 (Virginia nursing jobs)
• Healthcare Setting: 25-bed Medical Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
• Assignment Length: 13-week travel contract
• Start Date: September 8, 2025
• End Date: December 8, 2025
• Shift: 3x12-hour day shifts (06:45 AM – 07:15 PM), 36 hours per week
• Estimated Weekly Salary: $1800-$1840
• Patient Population: Acutely and chronically ill adults, geriatrics
• Charting System: Epic EMR (Epic experience required)
• Staffing Ratio: 1:5 (goal 1:4)
• Float Requirement: Occasional float to other PCU or Med Surg units
• Weekend Coverage: Required (6 weekend shifts per 6-week block)

Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (Virginia or compact state)
• Minimum 1 year of recent PCU/Stepdown RN experience
• BLS (AHA) and ACLS certifications required
• Epic charting experience required
• NIHSS certification preferred
• Proficient in telemetry, dysrhythmia interpretation/management, rapid response, blood product administration, central/peripheral line care, cardiac drips (no titration), non-invasive airway management, and isolation precautions
• COVID-19 and Flu vaccines required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
• Ability to work at least one holiday per assignment (two for winter holidays)

PCU RN Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality nursing care to adult and geriatric patients with complex medical conditions
• Monitor and manage telemetry and cardiac drips
• Interpret and respond to dysrhythmias; participate in rapid response teams
• Administer blood products and manage central and peripheral lines
• Provide non-invasive airway management and oxygen therapy (nasal cannula, face masks, CPAP, BiPAP)
• Float to other Progressive Care or Med Surg units as needed
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams including physicians, residents, physical therapy, respiratory services, pharmacy, and social services
• Document patient care using Epic EMR
• Participate in orientation and complete required training modules
