Job Description

This role involves installing air handling units (AHUs), rooftop units (RTUs), exhaust fans and systems, variable air volume (VAV) boxes, louvers, dampers, and associated ductwork on commercial construction projects under the direction of a jobsite foreman. You will use your sheet metal and HVAC installation experience to complete high-quality duct systems safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project drawings and specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Install air handling units (AHUs) and rooftop units (RTUs) according to project plans and specifications.
  • Install exhaust fans and exhaust systems, including all associated ductwork and components.
  • Install variable air volume (VAV) boxes, louvers, dampers, and related HVAC sheet metal components.
  • Install complete duct systems, including layout, fitting, hanging, and securing ductwork.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and project documents to determine layout and installation requirements.
  • Work under the direction of a jobsite foreman and coordinate with other trades to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Use appropriate tools and equipment to cut, assemble, and install sheet metal and ductwork safely and accurately.
  • Inspect installed systems for proper alignment, support, and airtight connections, and make adjustments as needed.
  • Follow all site safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Travel to job sites as required and arrive on time for scheduled shifts.

Essential Skills

  • At least 4 years of experience at the journeyman level in sheet metal or HVAC duct installation (license not required).
  • Proven experience installing duct systems, including AHUs, RTUs, exhaust systems, VAVs, louvers, dampers, and associated ductwork.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and blueprints for HVAC and sheet metal installations.
  • Strong sheet metal installation skills, including measuring, cutting, fitting, and assembling ductwork.
  • Experience working on construction sites and coordinating with foremen and other trades.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • US citizenship.
  • Reliability and ability to work early morning shifts.
  • Commitment to safe work practices and adherence to jobsite safety requirements.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working on commercial construction or large mechanical projects.
  • Comfort working overtime, including 6-day workweeks and 12-hour shifts when required.
  • Ability to adapt to different jobsite conditions and schedules.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality in all installations.
  • Good communication skills for interacting with foremen and team members.

Work Environment

Standard hours are Monday through Friday, typically 5:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. or 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., depending on the week. Some projects, such as those in Fairfax, may require 6 days per week with 12-hour shifts, offering significant overtime opportunities for those interested. You will work with common sheet metal and HVAC tools and equipment in a physically active environment that may involve ladders, lifts, and working at heights. Dress will follow typical construction site requirements, including appropriate work clothing, safety footwear, and personal protective equipment as required by the jobsite.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $38.00/hr.
