Position Summary

The Manufacturing Intern will support Tenneco’s Blacksburg facility by assisting in the development, documentation, and improvement of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for manufacturing processes. This role is ideal for a student or recent graduate seeking hands-on experience in manufacturing operations, process documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and production associates to document current processes.

• Observe and analyze manufacturing operations to ensure SOPs reflect accurate and safe practices.

• Write, format, and standardize SOPs in alignment with Tenneco quality and safety requirements.

• Assist with updating existing SOPs to meet current operational standards.

• Work with cross-functional teams to gather feedback and implement revisions.

• Support training efforts by ensuring SOPs are clear, user-friendly, and accessible.

• Maintain organized files and version control of documents.

• Participate in continuous improvement and lean manufacturing activities as needed.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Business, or related field.

• Strong technical writing and communication skills.

• Ability to understand manufacturing processes and translate them into step-by-step instructions.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to walk, stand, and observe production lines for extended periods.

• May require light lifting (up to 25 lbs).

• Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, heat, and moving equipment (with appropriate PPE provided).
