About The Role
Peraton is seeking a Building Engineer in support of Peraton facilities located in the Northern Virginia. Candidate will be responsible for everyday operations, maintenance, project oversight and other general duties typical of office buildings, grounds, and facilities.
Performs specialized engineering work related to building and facilities operations and maintenance. Areas of responsibility may include, but are not limited to, activities related to the maintenance, repair and modification of equipment, controls/communications, electrical/electronic systems, HVAC, or mechanical devices and equipment. May respond to and troubleshoot more complex system outages and provides initial and follow up response and coordination of contracted support vendors and suppliers. Controls inventory of spare parts and materials and supplies to provide maximum uptime on all equipment. Assists in the implementation of maintenance programs and performs routine preventive maintenance according to plan. Advises management on building / facility engineering matters, including compliance with federal/state laws and regulations. May participate in preparing, negotiating, and administering contracts for specialized facilities maintenance work. May be required to travel to field sites for facility maintenance purposes.
Responsibilities:
- Maintenance and Repairs: Conduct regular inspections, maintenance, and repairs of HVAC systems, electrical systems, plumbing, and other building systems to ensure optimal performance.
- Emergency Response: Respond to emergency situations, such as equipment failures or building emergencies, and take corrective actions to mitigate risks and ensure safety.
- Energy Management: Implement energy-efficient practices and technologies to optimize building performance and reduce energy consumption.
- Equipment Operation: Operate and monitor building automation systems, boilers, chillers, and other equipment to maintain a comfortable and safe environment.
- Compliance: Ensure that the building meets regulatory and safety standards, including compliance with codes and environmental regulations.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, contractors, and external service providers to coordinate maintenance activities and projects.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment manuals, and warranties.
- Budgeting: Assist in budgeting and cost estimation for maintenance and repair projects.
- Training: Provide training to building occupants on safety procedures and proper use of building systems.
Qualifications
- Education: Experience or vocational training in lieu of a degree will be considered.
- Experience: 7+ years of experience in building maintenance, engineering, or a related field is typically required. Knowledge of building codes and regulations is beneficial.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems. Familiarity with building automation systems and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) is a plus.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and address issues in building systems.
- Communication: Effective communication skills to interact with building occupants, contractors, and other stakeholders.
- Certifications: Some positions may require certifications such as Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Facility Manager (CFM), or other relevant certifications.
- Physical Fitness: The role may involve physical tasks, so good physical fitness and the ability to lift heavy equipment may be required.
- Clearance: Active Top Secret clearance required.

Details
Target Salary Range: $86,000 - $138,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
