Position Description:
The Fleet Coordinator is responsible for maintaining our fleet of vehicles (1 car, 1 pickup truck, 2 minivans, 4 minibuses, and 3 full-size buses) and field equipment; coordinating transportation logistics for the school; and participating as a member of our physical plant team.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain school vehicles and field equipment (70%)
- Keep all buses, support vehicles, and field equipment in running order by ensuring all routine maintenance and repairs are performed as scheduled and necessary.
- Clean vehicles and equipment as necessary.
- Perform regular pre-trip inspections for all vehicles used to transport students.
- Schedule and move vehicles to repair shops for safety and major mechanical repairs.
Coordinate transportation logistics for the school (20%)
- Work with the Athletic Director to schedule vehicles and drivers for team transportation.
- Serve as primary contact for teachers who need to schedule field trips, ensuring transportation is available through a school vehicle, rental vehicle, or chartered coach.
- Coordinate transportation for certain all-school events, including School Day Out, E-Term, and Community Service Day.
- Coordinate and execute safety protocols for vehicles and drivers through documented safety plans and regular trainings.
- Track and report vehicle mileage, working with the Business Office to bill appropriate departments or teams.
- Able and willing to drive as needed, including on short notice if a driver becomes unavailable or a bus breaks down en route. A commercial driver’s license with a school bus endorsement is preferred.
Support and assist as a member of the physical plant team (10%)
- Assist other maintenance staff as needed.
- Help ensure the campus is ready for significant annual events with setup and teardown as needed.
- Assist with snow removal.
- Work with other maintenance staff to keep tools and equipment storage neat and orderly, purging unnecessary clutter, and disposing of scrap metal and other materials.
Qualifications:
- Must be a committed Christian supportive of Anabaptist beliefs, who is energized by assisting the school in its programs and mission.
- Should present a cheerful disposition, have experience providing direction and leadership to others and quick to assist others.
- Interest in securing and using volunteer help on a regular basis.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
- Able to communicate using electronic means, email, internet purchasing, word processing, and spreadsheet skills are beneficial.
- This position will require schedule flexibility to assist in setting up around major events for the school.
- Must have the capacity to grasp and adjust to new and changing situations.
- Exhibits manual dexterity and ability to work under the pressure of time.
- Ability to work within a team and relate well with students, faculty, and staff.
- Competent in automotive mechanics and vehicle maintenance. CDL holder with school bus endorsement preferred.
- Familiar with or capable of learning seasonal practices of gardening & lawn care.
Physical Requirements:
Working conditions and physical requirements require ease in lifting up to 50 pounds and spending long amounts of time on feet.
