Job Title: Machinist - CNC/Manual Lathes and Mills

Job Description

We are seeking skilled Machinists capable of running manual and CNC lathes and mills to join a team of high-performing scientists, engineers, and technicians at our facility in Sterling, VA.

Responsibilities

• Set up, operate, and monitor CNC machines, including mills, lathes, and grinders, to produce parts and products.
• Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and work orders to determine machining operations and dimensions.
• Load and edit CNC programs as required to ensure the production of parts to specifications, troubleshoot and optimize programs for efficiency.
• Choose and install appropriate tools, fixtures, and gauges for machining processes.
• Verify the conformity and quality of finished parts.
• Perform inspections using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and CMMs to ensure parts meet strict quality standards.
• Identify opportunities for process improvements, including optimizing machining time, tool life, and part quality.
• Operate manual mills and lathes.
• Perform regular machine maintenance and cleaning.
• Other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills

• Experience with CNC machines, CNC lathes, and CNC equipment.
• Proficiency in tool setup and reading and interpreting technical drawings.
• 2+ years of related experience in machining.
• Experience with CNC and manual lathe and mill operations.
• Ability to interpret drawings according to ASME Y14.5-2009 standards.
• Capability to inspect parts for dimensional compliance and machining quality.

Work Environment

This role requires working in a machine shop environment, often exposed to loud noises, moving machinery, and potential hazards. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided. The position may require working in shifts depending on production schedules. Candidates must have the ability to lift and maneuver up to 50 lbs. and perform repetitive movements. The role also requires the ability to operate multiple machines at one time.

This is a Permanent position based out of Herndon, VA.

The pay range for this position is $60000.00 - $85000.00/yr.
