Earthmoving Dozer Specialist (Site Grading)
A day in the life — Richmond, VA
Sunup finds you walking the site, checking your bulldozer with a practiced eye. Fluids, tracks, blade — all inspected before the first push. You scan the day’s plans, confirm elevations, and coordinate with your foreman and crew so cut-and-fill goes exactly as designed. Once on the sticks, you shape grades, move material efficiently, and keep operations flowing safely and on schedule. Between cycles, you log work performed and materials moved, note any maintenance needs, and share pointers with a newer operator shadowing your routine. It’s hands-on, detail-driven work — and it shows in the quality of the site you leave behind.
What you’ll handle
- Operate bulldozers and related heavy equipment to move earth and support construction activities.
- Perform daily inspections and routine maintenance to keep machines in peak condition.
- Adhere strictly to safety procedures to protect yourself, coworkers, and the public.
- Coordinate with supervisors and teammates to meet production goals and budgets.
- Read and interpret blueprints and project plans to execute grading and earthwork accurately.
- Maintain clear, accurate records of tasks completed and materials used.
- Assist in mentoring and training new operators and crew members as needed.
What you bring
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Demonstrated experience operating bulldozers or comparable heavy equipment.
- Valid driver’s license; heavy equipment operator certification preferred.
- Solid understanding of construction safety standards and best practices.
- Comfort working outdoors in varied weather and in physically demanding conditions.
- Strong communicator with a collaborative, team-first mindset.
- Keen attention to detail and a commitment to producing quality work.
