FLSA STATUS: NON-EXEMPT
MINIMUM STARTING RATE OF PAY:42,804.96 DOQ

NATURE OF WORK
This is responsible work participating in the activities of the City's Central Warehouse. Work involves responsibility for the receipt, storage, and issuance of a variety of supplies and equipment and related record keeping operations. Work is performed with independence and is reviewed by the Purchasing Agent for adequacy of supplies and equipment and related records.

EXAMPLES OF WORK
  • Inspects newly received supplies and equipment for satisfactory condition and compliance with specifications; prepares write-up of received inventory supplies and approves invoices for payment; loads and unloads equipment, materials and supplies with hand truck and/or tow motor when necessary; stocks shelves; prepares labeling of stock items with inventory numbers and descriptions; secures the warehouse for closing.
  • Notifies appropriate staff of replacement supplies and items needed; initiates orders for supplies according to established policies, rules and regulations; issues equipment and stock items to work crews.
  • Maintains inventory and other stores records involving supply stock of a varied and specialized nature; maintains inventory controls for stock and replenishment.
  • Instructs employees who participate in annual and special inventories.
  • Conducts regular safety audits of warehouse and outside storage lot, reports any problems to Purchasing Agent; keeps warehouse floors free from debris; keeps stock in a neat and organized manner; keeps the operations and maintenance of the tow motor in good condition.
  • Directs prison farm laborers in cleaning tasks and issues cleaning supplies
  • Assists in answering telephone, and relaying messages by two-way radio.
  • Reports or corrects minor maintenance problems and makes such repairs as painting, replacing light bulbs and/or fixtures, minor plumbing and electrical repairs.
  • Performs related work as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OF WORK
  • Graduation from high school (or the equivalent) and considerable experience in store operations; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the following knowledge, abilities, and skills:
  • Considerable knowledge of modern stores' records and inventory systems.
  • Knowledge of tools, equipment, parts, materials, and supplies maintained in a large municipal storeroom.
  • Knowledge of accepted methods and practices of supplies receipt, storage and disbursement.
  • Ability to type and use computer ; perform mathematical computations and maintain neat and accurate inventory and clerical records.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written directions.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with general public and City personnel.
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures relating to the receipt, issuance and ordering of materials and supplies.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.

The employee must be physically capable of easily handling material or equipment weighing approximately 50-60 pounds on a regular basis. Must be able to ascend and descend safety ladder and stairs. Must be able to ascend, operate controls and descend from powered forklift.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
