Medical Assistant (MA) with Lab Experience
Branch Health/Medical Clinics (BHCs) and TRICARE Prime Clinics (TPCs) associated with Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, VA. POSITION QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS: Medical Assistant: (Does NOT need to be AMA Accredited)
- Education/Degree: Possess a high school diploma or GED certificate & be a graduate from a medical assistant training program accredited by (One of the following):
- Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs
- Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) of the American Medical Technologists
- Formal medical services training program of the United States Armed Forces, OR other formal program approved by the MTF
- Experience: Possess a minimum of one (1) year of experience within the last three (3) years performing venipunctures and finger-sticks on patients from pediatric to geriatric.
DUTIES:
- Perform basic "waived testing" to include screening tests
- Prepare specimens for transport
- Perform laboratory testing according to established laboratory procedures.
- Comply with infection control guidelines to include the proper handling, storage, and disposal of infectious wastes, and the use of universal precautions to prevent the spread of infection.
- Per the Family Advocacy Program provide appropriate medical examination, documentation, and reporting.
- Attend and/or comply with all annual training required to include but not limited to online annual training: disaster training, infection control, Sexual Harassment, Bloodborne Pathogens, Fire and Safety, Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives (CBRNE)
- Provide accurate, and concise documentation of patient care.
- Operate automated systems such as MHS Genesis and Clinical Information System (CIS),
- Sunday through Saturday between 0645 and 1900- depending on clinic location.
- Federal holidays may be required at some clinics, there will be a rotation to ensure coverage.
- Full-time employees are required to work 40 hours a week on an 8 hour matrix or 34.5 hours a week on a 12 hour matrix.
