About the Role
We are seeking a strategic and analytical Senior Director of Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) to lead the execution of our budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes. Reporting to the CFO, this role partners closely with leaders across the organization to provide meaningful financial insights, support strategic decision-making, and ensure alignment between financial performance and business objectives.
This position also plays a key leadership role in developing finance talent by coaching and mentoring members of the FP&A team.
We offer a flexible hybrid work environment, allowing you to enjoy the best of both worlds with 3 days in the office and up to 2 days working remotely each week. This position is in Alexandria, VA
What You'll DoFinancial Planning & Forecasting- Lead the execution of the annual budget and forecasting process under the direction of the CFO, including timelines, data gathering, analysis, review cycles, and final deliverables.
- Support the development of the company's annual business plan, budget, and long-term financial models through detailed analysis and forecasting.
- Partner with business leaders to establish annual budgets and monitor performance against financial targets.
- Build financial models and forecasts that support strategic and operational decision-making.
- Develop dashboards and performance reports that track key financial and operational metrics.
- Analyze trends, risks, and opportunities, providing actionable recommendations to leadership.
- Evaluate the financial impact of strategic initiatives and business investments.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess the costs and benefits of major business initiatives.
- Prepare and present analyses, forecasts, and recommendations to senior leadership and the Board.
- Prepare financial and operational reporting, including monthly KPI reporting and other management analyses.
- Support the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements as needed.
- Ensure analyses and reporting align with GAAP and STAT requirements.
- Provide backup support for the Controller or Assistant Controller when necessary.
- Train, coach, and develop finance team members.
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and data-driven decision-making.
- Guide and mentor the Director of Financial Analysis while helping strengthen overall FP&A capabilities.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 10+ years of progressive financial planning and analysis experience.
- Proven experience leading budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling initiatives.
- Prior experience leading, coaching, and developing finance professionals.
- Advanced Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs, SUMIF functions, and complex financial modeling.
- CPA designation.
- 5+ years of experience within the insurance industry.
- Experience with INFOR General Ledger systems.
- Experience with Prophix financial planning and reporting software.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to translate complex financial data into meaningful business insights.
- Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Demonstrated ownership mentality and commitment to delivering high-quality work.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to build strong partnerships across departments and support executive decision-making.
