Patient Access Technician – Emergency Department

Location: Norfolk

Shift: 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM

Schedule: Monday - Friday with Weekends Required ( 40 hour work weeks)

Position Overview

We are seeking Patient Access Technicians to support the Emergency Department. This role serves as the first point of contact for patients and plays a critical role in patient registration, insurance verification, revenue cycle support, and customer service. Candidates must be comfortable working in a fast-paced healthcare setting and interacting with patients experiencing a wide range of medical conditions, including trauma, behavioral health, and emergency situations.

Responsibilities

• Register patients and collect demographic information
• Verify insurance coverage and obtain authorizations
• Collect copayments and explain patient financial obligations
• Enter accurate patient information into hospital systems
• Assist with billing inquiries and documentation
• Obtain patient signatures on required forms
• Serve as a liaison between patients, visitors, and clinical staff
• Provide exceptional customer service while maintaining accuracy and efficiency
• Support registration needs across multiple departments as operational needs require

Qualifications

• Previous patient access, registration, front desk, or medical administrative experience
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work efficiently in a high-volume environment
• Comfortable discussing insurance and payment collections with patients
• Strong attention to detail and data-entry accuracy

This is a Contract position based out of Norfolk, VA.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Norfolk,VA.
