Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

A K-12 school in Chesapeake, VA, is seeking a skilled Sign Language Interpreter for a contract position running from August 11, 2025, through June 1, 2026. This role requires providing interpreting services in both 1:1 and classroom settings to support students who are transitioning, including some older high school students. The exact campus location(s) and grade levels will be determined closer to the start date.

Responsibilities:

• Provide effective sign language interpreting to students in educational settings
• Work closely 1:1 with students and assist in classroom environments as needed
• Perform light paraeducator duties when necessary to support students educational needs
• Collaborate with educators and staff to facilitate communication and learning
• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism adhering to school and state regulations

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent, supplemented by specialized training in sign language interpreting
• Considerable experience as a sign language interpreter working with children or in educational settings preferred
• Must possess, or be eligible to obtain, a Virginia Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III certification or equivalent as determined by the Virginia Department for the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing by the hiring date
• Candidates with VQAS Level II certification have two years from hire to obtain Level III certification in compliance with VDOE regulations

Location: Chesapeake, VA
Work Schedule: 7.5 hours per day, 37.5 hours weekly

This role offers a competitive hourly pay range of $25-$35, based on qualifications and experience, with weekly payment and a comprehensive benefits package. Dedicated assignment support will be provided to ensure success in this position.
