What is the Opportunity?

Aecon is a North American construction and infrastructure development company with global experience – transforming vision into reality. We offer a full spectrum of nuclear services for refurbishment, maintenance, new build, decommissioning, modularization, and fabrication to power a sustainable future.

Our nuclear sector plays an important role in extending the life of existing nuclear stations and executing the next generation of nuclear new builds leveraging a similar fleet execution strategy. From our work delivering the two largest refurbishment projects (Savannah River nuclear station and North Anna Power Station) in North America to deploying the first grid-scale SMR in the western world. We continue moving forward with a strategic focus on decarbonizing energy systems in support of a net zero future.

We are currently seeking a Cost Controller with nuclear or heavy industrial experience. They will be reporting to the Project Controls Manager.

Citizenship: Must be a US Citizen to apply for this position.

What You'll Do Here:

  • Participate in proposal and estimating efforts to ensure continuity between project estimates and baselines
  • Create the Cost Breakdown Structure, Cost accounts, Budget distribution
  • Establish Cost Control system, EVM framework, KPI’s, Dashboard, including Rules of Credit as per EVM standards and best practices.
  • Adhere to Contract requirements in setting up Client Reporting structure and deliverables; KPI’s, payment milestones…etc.
  • Coordinate resource planning with Scheduler while establishing the baseline schedule.
  • Create Cash flow in coordination with Finance.
  • Conduct Variance Analysis, compare Progress to Budgets considering progress, EVM metrics and reforecast as needed.
  • Audit Cost allocations and charges (incl. Timesheets, Subcontractor invoices…etc.) and propose corrective actions including reforecast to report realistic metrics.
  • Ensure cost performance is aligned with schedule progress including resources.
  • Coordinate with Finance to monitor cash position, support billing and invoicing.
  • Conduct and facilitate Risk Review meetings to adjust Contingency and Risk budgets and allowances.
  • Coordinate with Procurement and Finance in issuing Purchase Orders to Subcontractors and Suppliers and closing accounts at Projects completion.
  • Maintain the Change Management System; record and report changes, analyze impacts, issue change notifications, assist commercial team in submitting particulars.
  • Lead the internal reporting processes, in alignment with client reports.
  • Optimize current processes, tools and reports.
  • Develop project specific Project Controls Plan in alignment Aecon General Plans.
  • Contribute to the enhancement of Corporate Project Controls Guidelines, Standard Operating Procedures as per Aecon Standards and best industry practices.
  • Enhance templates for all Project Controls tools.
  • Record lessons learned, to consider in future proposals and projects.

What You Bring To The Team:

  • 4-7 years of Project Controls experience
  • College and/or University degree in related field, OR applicable work experience
  • Applied knowledge of the “Earned Value” principles and cost engineering/cost control
  • Applied knowledge of Project Management and Project Controls principles, including experience with concepts of PMBOK
  • Experience working in SAP systems and proficient in Microsoft Excel & Visio
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Primavera P6
  • Ability to produce read and manipulate schedules and scheduling curves/reports
  • Organizational skills to handle multiple tasks within a high-pressure work site environment
  • Interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral)
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of management and employees
  • Willingness for continuous learning and advancement of technical knowledge
  • Detail oriented and customer focused
