Sr. Accountant

Description We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to join a dynamic non-profit organization in Chesapeake, Virginia. This Contract position involves overseeing complex accounting operations, including grant management, financial reporting, and cost allocation processes. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in grant accounting and extensive experience in handling reconciliations and journal entries. Responsibilities: - Lead the month-end close process, ensuring accuracy and compliance with organizational standards. - Manage general ledger activities, including posting and reviewing entries. - Prepare and analyze detailed journal entries to support financial accuracy. - Perform account and bank reconciliations to maintain balance sheet integrity. - Oversee grant accounting processes from initial capture through reporting stages. - Develop and implement cost and fringe allocation strategies. - Generate financial reports and provide insights to support organizational decision-making. - Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements. - Collaborate with internal teams to improve accounting workflows and efficiencies. - Utilize advanced Microsoft Excel functions for data analysis and reporting. Requirements - Minimum of 7 years of accounting experience, preferably in a non-profit environment. - Expertise in month-end close procedures and general ledger management. - Strong skills in preparing complex journal entries and performing reconciliations. - Proven experience in grant accounting, including reporting and compliance. - Proficiency in cost allocation methods and financial analysis. - Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and formulas. - Excellent organizational and time management skills. - Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively.
