BAE Systems, one of the world's leading defense contractors, is currently recruiting for a passionate safety professional to join our dedicated Safety, Health and Environmental team. As a Senior Occupational Safety Specialist, you will play a key role in improving our Health and Safety Programs at our Norfolk, Virginia shipyard site, while reporting to the Site Safety Manager.

As an Occupational Safety Specialist, Senior, you will:

• Partner with management, staff, and employees to promote and support a safety culture that prioritizes the well-being of all employees through our Safety Management System (SMS).
• Develop strategies to remove or mitigate risks related to identified workplace hazards.
• Lead incident investigations, collaborating with stakeholders to identify root causes, contributing factors and implement preventive measures.
• Complete and submit customer incident reporting forms.
• Coordinate and oversee proper safety incident response including evidence collection, preservation and documentation.
• Communicate findings, trends, and recommendations to senior leadership and subcontractors to ensure that safety concerns are addressed promptly and effectively.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

• Typically requires a Bachelors degree in Occupational Safety, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related discipline, and four years experience applying safety processes in an industrial environment, or the overall equivalent.
• Knowledge of Safety and Health regulations and modern safety management principles.
• Knowledge and ability to apply incident investigation and causal analysis methodology.
• Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and management, especially during high-stress incidents and emergency situations.
• Ability to act independently to quickly recognize when issues need to be elevated and additional support is required.
• Able to support travel of up to 10%. Travel is typically local to the Norfolk, VA area.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

• Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
• Experience with Process Safety Management
• Management system experience (OSHA, ISO 45001)

Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $75254 - $127930

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
