The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 contractor with Music Ministry International and be responsible for the following:

Roman Catholic Cantor, Marine Memorial Chapel, MCB Quantico, VA

  • Cantor will provide Vocal Support and lead the congregation in the liturgy and musical selections for the 1215 Sunday Catholic Masses and associated rehearsals for the Catholic Community at MCB Quantico working in cooperation with the Music Director and the assigned Chaplains in charge of each Mass. The cantor will be able to perform all necessary assigned responsibilities and will be qualified as stated in this Job Description.
  • Music Ministry International will engage the Cantor as a 1099 contractor and principal Roman Catholic cantor for Company at the Marine Memorial Chapel MCB Quantico.
  • The Cantor’s pastoral concern for and counsel to members of the choir are to exemplify the spirit of the chapel. As an educator, the Cantor will teach music and explain worship concepts when needed. As a musician, the Cantor will be diligent in preparation and performance, and will cooperate with others to provide and enable the highest possible standard of worship in the congregation.
  • The Cantor and the Company agree to speak regularly to facilitate collegiality in the music ministry.
  • It is understood that a variety of traditions and styles in music may be appropriate for the services, and that a variety of chapel instruments may be used.

CANTOR’S RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Cantor shall:
  • Provide services at the National Chapel for the Marine Corps also known as Marine Memorial Chapel at MCB Quantico.
  • Sing all selections at the direction of the Music Director.
  • Coordinate music support requirements for the Catholic Mass with the Music Director.
  • Be present a minimum of 30 minutes prior to worship services to rehearse with choir, as well as coordinate any last minute details with the Music Director and assigned chaplains.
  • Be present a minimum of 15 minutes prior to a scheduled rehearsal to coordinate with the music director, assigned chaplains and/or chapel staff as needed.
  • Be in place at the proper location, ready to start on time with the singing of the selected music for each rehearsal.
  • Coordinate with the music director when required to perform at scheduled choir activities.
  • Adapt performances and rehearsals to altered worship service content and adjusted times. It is understood that service times and content have the potential to change due to unforeseen sickness, weather, and base exercises.
  • Have custodial responsibility for musical supplies used for her work, such as songbooks, sheet music, etc. Upon request by chapel personnel all supplies shall be returned.
  • Assume responsibility for restoring the performance and rehearsal areas to a neat and orderly condition after each performance or rehearsal. All materials shall be displayed in a neat and orderly fashion. The cantor shall not depart the area until materials are returned to their original position.
  • Assume responsibility of conservation of energy (turning off all lights, equipment, etc.) before leaving any service, rehearsal or special event.
  • Assume responsibility for securing the facility in the event they are the last person utilizing the facility in conjunction with their programs with the music director or contracted equivalent.
  • Perform at the following sessions under a valid contract: 104 worship service performances each year. Additional services (holy day service performances, additional rehearsals, special events/activities, and funeral service performances) may be authorized option days as needed coordinated by the music director.
  • Must conduct herself in a professional and business-like manner and maintain a professional appearance.
  • The Cantor shall show flexibility with regard to musical selections and be willing to include both contemporary and traditional music in the preparation of all worship services. The Cantor shall be agreeable and willing to alter the music program on short notice for any given worship service.
