- CSAC / CSAC-S/Group Facilitators
- QMHP staff providing SUD services
- Coordinating outside facilitators and activities
- SUD Interns / Trainees
Position Summary
The Addictions Recovery Services Coordinator is responsible for the clinical oversight, coordination, compliance monitoring, and operational management of all Substance Use Disorder (SUD) services at Neighborhood Community Services (NCS).
This role ensures that addiction recovery services are delivered in alignment with:
- Virginia DBHDS regulations (12VAC35-105; 12VAC35-115)
- DMAS Medicaid Provider Manual requirements
- ASAM Criteria (current edition)
- Managed Care Organization (MCO) standards
- NCS Standard Operating Procedures and Quality Improvement Plan
The Coordinator provides leadership to addiction recovery staff and ensures ASAM levels of service.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
1. Clinical Oversight & ASAM Implementation
- Oversee ASAM 2.1 (IOP) and ASAM 2.5 (PHP) services
- Ensure proper application of ASAM 6-Dimension assessments
- Monitor level-of-care determinations for accuracy and medical necessity
- Review and approve biopsychosocial assessments (within scope of credentials)
- Ensure individualized treatment plans reflect:
- Measurable goals
- Recovery-based language
- Dimension-driven interventions
- Monitor discharge planning and step-down/step-up transitions
2. Regulatory & Medicaid Compliance
- Ensure documentation meets DMAS standards for billing and reimbursement
- Conduct routine chart audits for:
- Timeliness
- Signature compliance
- Service authorization accuracy
- Credential alignment
- Monitor group sizes and service hours per DBHDS licensing standards
- Prepare documentation for internal and external audits (DMAS, DBHDS, MCO)
3. Supervision & Staff Development
- Provide clinical supervision (if credentialed)
- Conduct regular case staffing meetings
- Support staff in crisis management and relapse risk assessment
- Ensure all SUD staff complete required annual trainings
- Mentor staff in ASAM-based clinical documentation
4. Quality Improvement & Outcomes Monitoring
- Track key performance indicators (KPIs), including:
- Client engagement rates
- Attendance compliance
- Retention in care
- Successful program completion
- Relapse or readmission trends
- Participate in NCS Quality Improvement Committee
- Implement corrective action plans when needed
5. Care Coordination & Community Partnerships
- Coordinate with:
- Courts and probation/parole
- DSS
- Referral sources
- Residential providers
- External behavioral health agencies
- Ensure continuity of care during transitions
- Assist with MCO service authorizations and appeals
6. Risk Management & Ethical Oversight
- Ensure adherence to HIPAA and confidentiality regulations
- Monitor incident reporting procedures
- Participate in root cause analysis for critical incidents
- Promote trauma-informed, culturally competent service delivery
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct and manage individual and group substance abuse counseling services in accordance with treatment plans
- Conduct and manage treatment team meetings
- Develop, implement, and review comprehensive individualized treatment plans
- Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical records
- Collaborate with case managers, therapists, psychiatrists, and other care team members
- Monitor progress, adjust interventions as needed, and support long-term recovery goals
- Adhere to all state regulations, licensing standards, and agency policies
- Participate in team meetings, trainings, and supervision as required
- Conduct case management and care coordination sessions with participants.
Qualifications
- Current CSAC certification in the state of Virginia (required) with abachelors degree in human services, psychology, or related field preferred
- Licensed Mental Health Professional (LMHP: LPC, LPC-R, LCSW, LCSW-S, LMFT)
- Minimum of 1-3 year of experience providing substance abuse counseling (preferred)
- Knowledge of substance use disorders, treatment modalities, and recovery-oriented practices
- Strong communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Valid drivers license and reliable transportation (if applicable to role)
- Ability to pass background checks and required screenings
