We are looking for an Accounting Clerk to join a Real Estate & Property organization in Richmond, Virginia on a Long-term Contract basis. This position supports daily loan accounting activities by helping ensure incoming funds are posted accurately, customer accounts are handled in line with loan terms, and service standards remain consistent. The role is well suited for someone who is detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable working with payment processing, mortgage-related records, and account research in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:• Process incoming borrower and client payments with accuracy, ensuring funds are applied to the appropriate loan accounts and transactions are recorded correctly.
• Investigate and resolve lockbox exceptions, payment discrepancies, and posting issues to maintain accurate account balances.
• Prepare and document deposits in accordance with internal controls, established procedures, and applicable regulatory expectations.
• Assist with the setup, maintenance, and review of organizational account records and cashiering-related data.
• Support reconciliation efforts by comparing account activity, identifying variances, and helping correct payment or ledger errors.
• Review mortgage and loan documentation as needed to confirm payment handling aligns with contractual terms and servicing requirements.
• Provide dependable support to internal departments and external customers by responding to routine account and payment-related inquiries.
• Perform high-volume data entry and transaction updates while maintaining accuracy, timeliness, and proper record retention.• Experience or training in data entry, accounting support, cashiering, or payment processing functions.
• Familiarity with mortgage banking, mortgage servicing, or loan operations within the mortgage industry.
• Ability to read and work with mortgage documents, payment records, and loan-related account information.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify discrepancies and follow through on corrections.
• Basic understanding of account reconciliation principles and financial transaction handling.
• Proficiency in standard office systems and the ability to learn internal accounting or mortgage applications quickly.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills for working with both internal teams and external customers.
