Make Your Mark as a Power Generation Electrical CAD Designer

Location: Richmond, VA
Assignment: 12 months

Join a collaborative electrical design team supporting a non‑nuclear power generation fleet. In this intermediate designer role, you’ll report to the Supervisor of Design and Documentation and serve as a key contributor who produces and reviews construction-ready drawings, coordinates field work, and partners closely with project management and construction teams. Occasional site travel, including overnight visits when schedules require, keeps your work connected to real-world outcomes.

A day in your role

You start by prioritizing drawing updates in accordance with corporate standards—single-lines, wiring diagrams, plan drawings, and more. Mid-morning, you review vendor and A/E submittals, offering clear, constructive feedback. After lunch, you coordinate a site walkdown to verify cable and raceway routing, capturing redlines to reconcile in ProjectWise/Documentum. You wrap the day maintaining drawing records to compliance policies and acting as point-of-contact for assigned design deliverables.

What you’ll do

• Prepare and review detailed electrical drawings that support power generation engineering projects and construction deliverables.
• Provide general electrical design support for equipment, cable/raceway layout, and drawing number administration across the fleet.
• Coordinate and perform site visits and field verification; travel overnight as needed by project timelines.
• Serve as a liaison to Project Management and Construction, answering questions on design scope, quality, and status.
• Critically review peer, vendor, and Architect/Engineer drawing submittals and provide actionable feedback.
• Maintain drawing and documentation records per corporate standards and compliance requirements.
• Practice rigorous personal safety and consistently apply environmental compliance procedures.

What you bring

• 5+ years of relevant experience in power generation (non‑nuclear).
• Strong command of electrical design and drafting fundamentals with working knowledge of NEC, IEEE, and NERC.
• Proficiency in MicroStation and AutoCAD.
• Experience with drawing/document management systems (ProjectWise and Documentum).
• Self-direction to manage project workloads with minimal oversight and adapt to shifting scopes and schedules.

This position reports to the Supervisor of Design and Documentation and functions as an intermediate-level designer providing technical and coordination support for other drafters/designers as needed.
