Position Title: AP Accountant

Location: Fairfax, VA / Hybrid

Assignment type: Temp-to-permanent

Compensation: $25 - $26/hour

Work Schedule: M-F 9-5

Job Description:

Our client is seeking an AP Accountant to join their team on a temp-to-perm basis. This position will be responsible for supporting full-cycle accounts payable functions along with additional accounting and administrative support in a collaborative environment. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, solid communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy. Key responsibilities include:

• Managing the full cycle accounts payable process from invoice receipt through payment
• Reviewing invoices for accuracy, obtaining approvals, entering data into the accounting system, and processing payments
• Supporting weekly check runs and preparing ACH files for approval
• Reviewing and processing vendor and subcontractor invoices
• Recording credit card transactions and maintaining accurate supporting documentation
• Ensuring accounting records are complete, accurate, and audit-ready
• Analyzing expenditure trends and preparing reports for internal review
• Assisting with cost allocations and variance analysis in accordance with company policies
• Setting up projects and maintaining related records within the accounting system
• Supporting payroll processing activities including timesheet review, labor posting, and data imports
• Assisting with general accounting tasks including reconciliations, billing support, and month-end close activities as needed

Qualified candidates will have:

• 2+ years of accounts payable experience
• Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Experience with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office
• Knowledge of accounts payable, reconciliations, general ledger activity, billing, payroll support, and month-end close processes
• Understanding of GAAP
• Experience in a government contracting or regulated environment is preferred
• Experience with Unanet or QuickBooks is a strong plus
