Senior Systems Engineer

Powell Consulting Group (PCG) of Washington, DC, is looking to hire a full-time Senior Systems Engineer with experience in defense weapon systems and acquisition policy to join our energized team in support of a variety of programs.
As a team member, you will support the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering (OUSD(R&E)) in improving Systems Engineering (SE) practices, focusing on modern approaches like the Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA), Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), AGILE Systems Development, and Artificial Intelligence (AI). You will collaborate with the SE community and DoD senior executives, reviewing OUSD(R&E) modernization priorities, technologies, and related policies, while coordinating with various DoD organizations, federal agencies, and industry partners to enhance training and workforce development resources.

Location: This position is hybrid remote with on-site work located in Alexandria, VA. The candidate must reside in the National Capital Region (NCR).
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the government Director's lead to prepare, coordinate, collaborate, and participate in MOSA initiatives.
- Support the instantiation of MOSA and MBSE into DoD Engineering processes and technical reviews.
- Conduct engineering assessments and analysis of alternatives (AoA) to support the recommendation of modular approaches, tools, and technologies for development of new analytics, including data-and event-driven analytics supporting MOSA.
- Collaborate with various engineering teams to support requirements definition, evaluation, integration, and deployment of newly developed capabilities.
- Advise and support the customer's leadership on the formulation and coordination of DoD MOSA policies, standards, specifications, and activities to implement the DoD's chartered responsibilities for enabling modular and open architectures in defense systems.
- Provide subject matter expertise in the development and implementation of the MOSA-related workforce training courses.
- Support annual SE and MOSA conferences, preparing workshops, briefings, and supporting the OUSD(R&E) participation.
- Prepare presentations and other materials to support project functions.
- Draft correspondence, reports, white papers, minutes, spreadsheets, communications products, briefs, and other documentation
- Communicates with other program personnel, government overseers, and senior executives
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Active Secret clearance.
- US citizenship.
- Bachelor's degree and five (5) or more years of experience; Master's and three (3) or more years of experience. Degree in a science, technical, engineering, or math (STEM) discipline that is relevant to the engineering of defense systems.
- Experience in engineering, integration, and interface management of complex systems such as Systems of Systems (SoS) and Families of Systems (FoS).
- Demonstrated experience in planning, briefing, and coordinating senior-level technical reviews, panels, and working group meetings among industry, academia, and Government stakeholders.
- Experience supporting DoD or other US Federal Government agencies and processes.
- Demonstrated experience with conveying complex ideas and theories to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Demonstrated experience working independently and with a team to lead and execute tasks in a rapidly changing, fast-paced environment.
- Self-motivated with strong interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated experience communicating with senior leaders (Government Service (GS-15) and Senior Executive Service (SES) in the SE discipline.
Desired Qualifications:
- Additional experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) practices and the digital transformation of defense systems.
- Demonstrated experience with technical management processes for engineering defense systems.
- Demonstrated experience working with system architecture, interfaces, standards, and specifications.
- Master's degree desired.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of engineering experience on US government programs.
