About the role:
Bixal is seeking a highly skilled and mission-driven Data Scientist to support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This role will be instrumental in advancing a comprehensive data analytics and measurement framework that empowers VA teams to make data-informed decisions that improve services and outcomes for Veterans, caregivers, and their families.
The successful candidate will collaborate closely with engineers, product leaders, and customer experience strategists to transform complex, disparate datasets into actionable insights. By developing advanced analytical models and uncovering trends across operational and experiential data, this individual will play a critical role in enhancing the VA’s digital services and user experience strategy.This is a full-time position contingent on contract award by our client, with a defined performance period of one year with two one-year option periods. This role offers you a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on a project that aligns with Bixal’s mission of delivering innovative, human-centered solutions. Compensation:
The salary range for this role is $95,000 – $105,000. In the spirit of transparency, most offers tend to land near the midpoint of the range. We make compensation decisions thoughtfully, considering your experience, the skills you bring, and our commitment to internal equity. Fairness and transparency are core to how we operate.
Responsibilities:
- Analyze operational, experiential, and architectural datasets to identify performance trends and service gaps.
- Build predictive models and advanced analytics solutions to support data-informed decision-making.
- Collaborate with data engineers and product leaders to develop and optimize pipelines using Databricks, Azure ML, and other tools.
- Apply NLP and AI/ML techniques to analyze survey responses, help desk tickets, and qualitative feedback.
- Collaborate with CX Measurement Leads and Visualization Specialists to integrate qualitative feedback and deliver actionable insights via Power BI and similar platforms.
- Ensure data governance and compliance using tools like Collibra and Immuta, maintaining metadata, lineage, and access protocols.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies and sprint planning to align analytics with stakeholder priorities and product goals.
- Other related tasks as assigned, trained, and qualified to perform.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field plus at least four (4) years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Experience working with large-scale, complex datasets in federal environments.
- Proficiency in Python, PySpark, Databricks, and Azure Machine Learning.
- Proven experience with Azure Data Factory, Databricks, and PySpark.
- Strong experience with NLP, AI/ML, and predictive analytics.
- Strong experience in graph databases and graph analytics.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to communicate findings effectively to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance
Nice to Have Skills and Experience:
- Prior experience supporting Veterans Affairs or other federal health or benefits programs.
- Familiarity with VA systems and datasets.
- Existing VA clearance.
