Lead HVAC Service Technician

Responsibilities

  • Lead and perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on all HVAC equipment, including air and water-cooled chillers, centrifugal and screw package chillers, natural gas boilers, unit heaters, electric duct heaters, cooling towers, and water pumps.
  • Operate, maintain, and upgrade building automation systems, including pneumatic, DDC, and variable frequency drive controls.
  • Oversee HVAC air distribution systems, including air handling units (AHUs), fan coil units (FCUs), fans, and related devices.
  • Monitor compliance with contractual commitments for mission-critical mechanical services and maintenance.
  • Provide guidance, leadership, and technical expertise to junior technicians, supporting their development and training.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and system performance.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and respond to emergency service requests as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor to support facility operations.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 7 years of large commercial HVAC service experience required; 8 years preferred.
  • Completion of a basic air conditioning theory class.
  • Proficient in the use of HVAC diagnostic tools and instruments.
  • Experience with DDC, pneumatic, and variable frequency drive controls.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office or related software.
  • OSHA Certification required.
  • Valid Virginia or Maryland driver’s license required.
  • Ability to pass any required client background checks or training.
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain security clearance preferred.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds and work in environments with moderate noise levels.
