Supv. Physician (Psychiatrist) (Fort Belvoir)

Overview

The position is located in the Intrepid Spirit Center and collaborates with Military Health System Centers of Excellence, The Defense Intrepid Network, and the National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE).

This role serves as the Medical Director for the Intrepid Spirit Center in Fort Belvoir, VA.

The ISC at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital is a specialized outpatient interdisciplinary clinic within the Military Health System. It primarily serves active duty service members and eligible beneficiaries diagnosed with traumatic brain injury (mild, moderate, or severe), suspected TBI, and co-occurring psychological health disorders.

The Medical Director assists the ISC Director in program management, strategic planning, operational execution, and policy coordination related to the rehabilitation of patients with co-occurring PH and TBI. The Medical Director reports directly below the ISC Director.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Medical Director for the Intrepid Service Center, overseeing clinical, administrative, and research concerns.
• Advise the Deputy Director on clinical operations of rehabilitation services (physical therapy, speech-language pathology, occupational therapy, TBI optometry, nutrition), behavioral health services (psychology, social work, neuropsychology, psychiatry), and medical services (nurse practitioners, neurology, PM&R).
• Evaluate quality of professional, research, and administrative work in accordance with Joint Commission standards and military policies. Conduct quality assurance reviews, provide consultation, and recommend improvements.
• Examine, assess, and treat patients at the ISC as a board-certified physician, working independently and following established medical practices and policies.
• Supervise, teach, and consult with a healthcare team including physicians, medical professionals, and ancillary staff. Manage work assignments, performance evaluations, and employee development.

Qualifications

• Must be board certified.
• Must have at least two years of recent experience (within the last five years) treating TBI patients in a multidisciplinary setting.
• Must have supervisory or managerial experience.
