Certified Surgical Technologist (CVOR)
A full-time Certified Surgical Technologist opportunity is available in the Cardiovascular Operating Room at a 500+ bed acute care hospital in Salem, Virginia. This facility is recognized for its strong heart and vascular program, including a designated Heart Center, and also provides advanced services in orthopedics and spine care, behavioral health, and cancer care. This role offers the opportunity to work in a high-acuity surgical environment supporting complex procedures and multidisciplinary teams.
The Surgical Technologist functions within the CVOR setting, assisting surgeons and nursing staff during operative procedures with a focus on cardiovascular care. This role includes scrubbing for C-sections, maintaining a sterile and safe operating environment, and ensuring surgical instrumentation is properly prepared and maintained throughout procedures. Additional responsibilities include supporting infant testing and assisting with patient registration and pre-registration processes as directed by the RN, along with accurate handling of patient information. Strong attention to detail, technical skill, and adherence to sterile technique are essential for success in this position.
Responsibilities:
Assist in cardiovascular and general surgical procedures in the operating room.
Scrub for C-sections and maintain sterile technique throughout procedures.
Prepare, organize, and maintain surgical instruments and equipment.
Support maintenance of a safe and efficient operative environment.
Perform infant testing and related tasks as directed by nursing staff.
Assist with patient registration and pre-registration for obstetric services.
Ensure accurate documentation and handling of patient information.
Collaborate with surgeons, nurses, and OR staff to support surgical procedures.
Maintain compliance with all surgical, safety, and infection control standards.
Qualifications:
Completion of a Surgical Technology program required or state grandfathered certification accepted.
Current Surgical Technologist registration with the State of Virginia required.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 90 days of hire.
Knowledge of medical terminology required.
Basic computer skills required.
Strong communication and customer service skills, including effective listening.
Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs and prolonged standing.
Previous surgical technologist experience preferred; 1–2 years of scrub or hospital experience preferred.

Shift options: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM or 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM
