Job Summary:
The City of Martinsville seeks a highly skilled Network Engineer to design, implement, and maintain network infrastructure for our Internet Service Provider (ISP) operations. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in network engineering, troubleshooting, and optimization, with a strong preference for those with hands-on experience in Adtran XGSPON technology and Voice over IP (VoIP) systems.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, deploy, and maintain high-performance network infrastructure for ISP operations.
• Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot network hardware, including routers, switches, and fiberoptic equipment.
• Implement and optimize Adtran XGSPON solutions to enhance service delivery.
• Deploy, configure, and maintain Voice over IP (VoIP) systems and services.
• Monitor network performance and ensure maximum uptime and reliability.
• Diagnose and resolve network related issues in a timely manner.
• Collaborate with other departments to support service expansions and upgrades.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards and security protocols.
• Develop and maintain network documentation, including topology diagrams and procedures.
• Assist with capacity planning and network scalability initiatives.
• Provide training and support to junior network technicians as needed.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred.
• 3+ years of experience in network engineering, preferably within an ISP environment.
• Strong knowledge of networking protocols and technologies, including BGP, OSPF, VLANs, QoS, and MPLS.
• Hands on experience with Adtran XGSPON, Palo Alto Firewalls, and Cisco Routers technology is strongly preferred.
• Experience with Voice over IP (VoIP) technologies and deployment.
• Proficiency with network monitoring and diagnostic tools.
• Experience with fiberoptic networking and broadband service delivery.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.
• Relevant certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent are a plus.

The Network Engineer works with technicians on-call when required.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
