Howmet Aerospace’s Industrial Gas Turbine group in Hampton, VA keeps complex manufacturing assets humming. We’re looking for a Multiskilled Industrial Maintenance Specialist to own uptime and reliability across electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.

Role at a glance

• Location: Hampton, Virginia (IGT facility)
• Starting pay: $41.70 p/hr.
• Off-shift premium: $1.00 p/hr.
• Shifts: 2nd (M–F 3pm–11pm) and 3rd (M–F 11pm–7am)
• Training: 1st shift (M–F 7am–3pm)

What you will take on

• Preventive and corrective maintenance for conveyors, motors, pneumatics, hydraulics, and production machinery using OEM docs, drawings, and specs.
• Electrical diagnostics on 480Vac power and 120Vac control circuits; use multimeters and test equipment to measure voltage, current, resistance, capacitance, etc.
• Precision troubleshooting with calipers, micrometers, and gauges to confirm dimensions and tolerances.
• Disassembly/reassembly of equipment; use cranes, hoists, and hand/power tools to remove and replace parts.
• Install and route conduit and field wiring; connect power and communications cabling between machines and systems; design wiring/conduit layouts and install electrical apparatus.
• Repair/replace transformers, motors, lighting, relays, switches, sensors, printed circuit boards, and motor bearings; perform motor rewinds as needed.
• Diagnose and replace mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components; build and maintain pipe systems; service valves, regulators, and gauges.
• Cut and weld metal parts; rig equipment for installations and relocations.
• Support and maintain robotic and automated equipment.
• Operate industrial forklifts; perform work at heights up to 50 feet.
• Manage spares and consumables; check stock, order, expedite, and verify receipts.
• Document maintenance actions, irregularities, and ongoing needs; generate reports and track trends to share across shifts.
• Continuously develop via workshops, technical reading, and peer networks.
• Protect people and assets by following safety procedures and maintaining a clean work area.

What you bring

• High school diploma or GED.
• Certification in mechanical, electrical, or multi-craft apprenticeship (required).
• 5–7 years of industrial electro-mechanical experience.
• Proficiency with pneumatics, hydraulics, electrical systems, water systems, PLCs, welding, and analytical troubleshooting.
• Mobile equipment training/certification; able to operate an industrial forklift.
• Comfort reading safety/operating manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; speak effectively to groups of employees or customers.
• Strong math skills (percentages, area, circumference, volume, basic algebra/geometry).
• Proven ability to solve practical problems with limited standardization; interpret written, oral, diagrammatic, or scheduled instructions.
• Ability to read basic blueprints and install equipment/components accordingly.
• Familiarity with and provision of a comprehensive set of hand tools.
