Industrial Maintenance Technician - Norfolk, VA - Enjoy a rewarding and challenging position with a nonprofit organization helping educate, train, and provide employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities since 1955. We are currently seeking applicants for a full-time Industrial Maintenance Technician who will be responsible for the daily maintenance, repair, and reliability of industrial equipment and facility systems within a high‑throughput production environment. This role focuses on troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and equipment upkeep to support safe, efficient operations. Works closely with laundry operations and the facilities team to ensure equipment performance and plant readiness. Training provided on facility‑specific systems and processes.

Applicant must have the availability to work Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following duties and responsibilities represent the essential functions of this job that an individual must be able to perform with or without reasonable accommodation:

    • Cleans, repairs, reconditions, and maintains equipment and components
    • Prepares, inspects, and operates machines
    • Removes, disassembles, assembles, and installs components and parts
    • Services and maintains equipment owned by the company and makes parts replacement decisions, assuring optimum economic reusability
    • Tests, measures, and adjusts equipment and machine systems and components
    • Diagnoses and troubleshoots machine and equipment malfunctions and failures
    • Maintains current knowledge of developments in tooling, technologies, and systems
    • Uses general maintenance equipment, including but not limited to hand tools, ladders, landscaping, floor care, and required safety equipment in a safe and efficient manner
    • Comply with policies related to, but not limited to, OSHA and safety standards set by the organization, including maintaining a safe, clean, and organized work environment, and attending training sessions accordingly
    • Assists customers, as needed, with a courteous demeanor
    • Other duties as assigned
    • Local travel between laundry facilities is required

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, & EXPERIENCE:

The following qualifications represent the training, education, certifications, licensures, and/or work experience required to perform the essential duties and responsibilities successfully:

    • High School diploma or GED with a minimum of two years of related experience in facility, commercial, electrical, and mechanical systems and service
    • Experience in a production environment required
    • Knowledge of industry procedures and effective quality control practices
    • Skilled with tools, electronic control systems, hydraulics, and pneumatics
    • Basic understanding of equipment mechanics, maintenance, repair, and upkeep, with the ability to troubleshoot and diagnose both mechanical and electrical problems
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize tasks
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills, excellent customer service standards and practices, with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and exercise good judgment
    • Competent with Microsoft 365 or related software

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Physical demands: Performing the duties of this job requires near visual acuity, the ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and/or other sounds, and gross manipulation. Additionally, the employee:

  • Must be free of tuberculosis in a communicable form

  • Must be able to lift/move 50 pounds and stand for two or more hours
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces and traverse property and facilities to diagnose building issues and plan repairs or maintenance

  • Must be able to bend through a full range of motion, lift, stretch, climb, and crawl

Work environment : While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be in industrial settings and may sometimes perform outside during inclement weather. Must be able to tolerate a work environment that is prone to high and low temperature fluctuations, dust, dirt, lint, and industrial fluids.
