Client is a local Charlottesville firm known for crafting some of the area's most beautiful residential and commercial spaces (and being all-around amazing at building), is seeking an experienced full-time, in-person Accounting Manager.

What You'll Be Doing:
The Accounting Manager is primarily responsible for supporting client's financial operations, including accounts payable, subcontractor billing, payroll coordination, job-level cost tracking, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
This role may also assist with light administrative support tasks such as ordering supplies or coordinating office vendors, but the focus is on accuracy, consistency, and timeliness of financial information. This individual will work closely with company leadership to maintain clear, well-documented systems and ensure monthly and year-end reporting is complete and audit-ready.
Responsibilities:
Accounts Payable & Receivable:
Process subcontractor and vendor payments
Assist in drafting customer invoices monthly by project
Track AR and follow up on outstanding balances
Maintain and reconcile vendor accounts monthly
Coordinate and track W-9s, certificates of insurance, and lien waivers
Job:
Maintain job tagging and WIP tracking in QuickBooks.
Deposit checks and record appropriately.
Track loans, draws, and line of credit activity, if applicable.
Payroll & HR Coordination:
Collect and review employee timesheets.
Process payroll weekly, ensuring timeliness and accuracy.
Track PTO and other leave balances.
Maintain documentation for workers' comp and general liability insurance.
Assist with workers' comp audits and claims.
Reporting & Compliance.
Provide weekly AR/AP/WIP summaries.
Assist with monthly P&L and balance sheet reporting.
Maintain compliance calendar for Sales tax returns, Business license renewals, and personal property tax filings (state, county, city).
Assist with 1099 preparation or review during year-end.
Year-end financial prep for CPA turnover.
Administrative Support:
Order office supplies.
Coordinate office cleaning vendors or IT support if needed.
Maintain checklists or SOPs for recurring workflows.
What You Bring:
2-3+ years of accounting experience; construction or job-costing experience strongly preferred.
Familiarity with QuickBooks Online or Desktop.
Clear communication skills and process discipline.
Ability to follow structured systems and escalate issues appropriately.
A calm, problem-solving mindset-you don't panic under pressure.
Comfortable using construction project management software (Job tread or similar is a plus).
