Job Title:
Assistant General Counsel
Role Summary:
Member of the legal team, primarily focusing on contract review (vendor agreements, leases, licenses, purchases, sales, insurance, etc.), monitoring and providing legal counsel on new and existing laws and regulations, preparing corporate resolutions and forms, and assisting with management of legal disputes and claims.
Additional Responsibilities:
Preparing legal pleadings, motions, discovery, stipulations, etc.
Reviewing and recommending policies and guidelines on legal and compliance issues.
Researching a variety of complex legal issues and providing summaries and recommendations to the legal team and internal clients.
Performing investigations and conducting compliance training.
Other duties as assigned

Function-Specific Required Skills and Competencies:
Admission to State Bar with a license to practice in-house.
Familiar with standard concepts, practices, legal procedures
Knowledge of federal, state and local laws
Required Minimum Years Experience:
Minimum of three years of experience in the general practice of law.
Experience in a transportation, Admiralty law firm, corporate legal department, or at an ocean carrier preferred.
Required Minimum Education:
Bachelor’s degree and Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited law school
