PCU Nurse Job Details

• Assignment Type: Locum tenens travel contract
• Location: Roanoke, Virginia 24014
• Start Date: Flexible; as early as September 8, 2025
• Contract Duration: 13 weeks
• Nursing Shift: 3x12-hour night shifts (18:45 – 07:15)
• Weekly Hours: 36
• Estimated Weekly Salary: $1800-$1840
• Patient Population: Adults and geriatrics
• Unit Type: Progressive Care Unit (PCU/Stepdown)
• Orientation: 32 hours
• Weekend Coverage: Required (6 weekend shifts per 6-week block)

Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license – Virginia or compact state
• At least 1 year of recent PCU/Stepdown nursing experience
• Current ACLS and BLS certifications (AHA required)
• NIHSS certification
• Proficiency with EPIC EMR charting
• Ability to float to other PCU or Medical-Surgical units as needed
• COVID-19 and Flu vaccinations required (medical/religious exemptions considered)

PCU Nurse Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to PCU/Stepdown patients with complex medical needs
• Interpret and manage cardiac dysrhythmias, administer blood products, and manage cardiac drips (no titration)
• Perform central and peripheral line care and management
• Utilize rapid response teams and follow isolation precautions
• Administer oxygen therapy (nasal cannula, face masks, CPAP, BiPAP, non-invasive airway management)
• Monitor telemetry (remote and on-unit monitoring)
• Document patient care and progress using EPIC EMR
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams (physical therapy, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, etc.)
• Float to other PCU or Med-Surg units as required
• Participate in self-scheduling and work at least one holiday during the assignment (two during winter holidays)
