Data engineer

Job location Richmond VA(highly preferred)/NYC (2 nd preference)

Duration: Long-term

Independent candidates Only

Must Have:

• SQL legacy metrics (800,000 lines of nuanced SQL code)***
• Spark
• Python
• Bigdata Bata/Hadoop
• Data pipelining
• AWS don't need them to develop, but basic devops and resolving vulnerabilities (EMR, Unix, Hadoop, Big Data)

Nice to Have:

• ERP Migration & financial ledger data (PeopleSoft and/or Workday)
• 2-3+ YOE

Preferred Qualifications:
5+ years of experience in developing data applications and pipelines utilizing Python and SQL
2+ years of experience with a public cloud (AWS preferred)
3+ years' experience with Distributed data/computing tools (MapReduce, Hadoop, Hive, EMR, Kafka, Spark or MySQL)
2+ years of data warehousing experience (RDS Services or Snowflake)
3+ years of experience with UNIX/Linux including basic commands and shell scripting
2+ years of experience with Agile engineering practices
Experience working on and resolving Capital One Enterprise Tech Backlog (ETB) items and vulnerability management
Experience working with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems like Peoplesoft and Workday and financial ledger data
Experience working with Capital One Bank Tech and/or Commercial Bank groups
Experience building, testing and deploying data metrics
Experience creating complex SQL queries and interpreting existing complex SQL queries to understand data sourcing, flows and lineage

Team: Bank Technology Team supports Commercial Bank (DDMS - Data Decision & Market Services)

Manage four agile teams of 21 data engineering associates - 18 full-time employees and 3 contractors - who provide support across the entire Commercial Banking Credit lifecycle, including:

• Underwriting and Portfolio Management (UW/PM)
• Marketing & Analysis (M&A)
• Credit Risk & Analytics (CR&A)
• Loan and Capital Market Operations

Project:

• ERP Migration - replacement of CapOne's General Ledger System - ERP (PeopleSoft Workday) Enterprise-wide. Have found 200+ metrics they'll need to remediate
• Commercial Data Refinery standardizing metrics, and building out data products for many groups
• Light applications ASVs related to this, vulnerability management, etc. & trex ETB Enterprise Tech Backlog
