The Role: Tesla Government, Inc. seeks a team lead who will manage a team of Portals Engagement and Outreach Specialists who support U.S. and multinational partners operating in complex, mission-driven environments where timely, accurate information sharing is critical.

Position Summary:

The Portals Team Lead supervises specialists who support the information needs of clients throughout the government and military while working on Tesla's GovShare platform. The Portals Team Lead is primarily focused on knowledge management support, data collaboration, and customer relationship management. The team lead ensures that customers have the resources they need to accomplish their missions and are connected to the proper support personnel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (proportional breakdowns of responsibilities vary):

  • Team Management

    • Manage a team of Portals Engagement and Outreach Specialists, determining prioritization of projects, monitoring quality and output, supporting professional development, and establishing and maintaining standards

    • Support Tesla and client program goals; look for ways the Portals Team can help accomplish them

    • Own prioritization of team efforts in alignment with client and company goals, including making tradeoff decisions in fast-paced environments.

  • User Relationship Management

    • Engage with stakeholders of varying seniority, priorities, and levels of platform adoption, including navigating complex or sensitive relationships.

    • Interact with clients in person, over the phone, and through email to build and maintain relationships

    • Provide trainings to users on navigating and leveraging the GovShare platform, collaboration tools, and integrated applications

    • Maintain detailed understanding of GovShare platform’s capabilities in order to develop solutions to client information sharing challenges

    • Maintain a proper understanding of the user base and what solutions they need for their mission

  • Knowledge Management

    • Guide users in structuring and maintaining their information, organizing it in an intuitive manner

    • Manage extensive compilations of reports to enable users to readily discover information

    • Continuously improve how information is presented, leveraging visualizations and breaking up text

    • Ensure that information is shared appropriately, navigating complex permissions and security requirements and advising users and team members on best practices

    • Understand user base’s needs and use cases in order to provide insight to GovShare technical and design teams

  • Platform Access and Security

    • Enforce Tesla’s security policies with all clients

    • Manage platform access

  • Business Development

    • Identify trends to inform platform improvements, service offerings, and strategic direction

    • Support business development needs, including writing white papers and technical support material for proposals

  • Occasional travel to client sites

  • Other Duties, as Assigned

Attributes of a Successful Portals Team Lead

  • Mature approach to team management, including providing timely, constructive and actionable feedback

  • Ability to set team strategy over a 1-3 year time horizon and identify and prioritize opportunities to advance overall program

  • Interpersonal skills that allow effective interaction with personnel at all levels of US and foreign governments

  • Have a mindset to organize complex information in an easily navigable way

  • Ability to create engaging written, graphical, and multimedia content

  • Ability to meet deadlines without compromising quality

  • Be technically savvy and have the ability and willingness to learn various computer and web-based applications

  • Attention to detail


Required Qualifications:

  • 4 years experience working with the US government or military, including experience leading projects or teams

  • Demonstrated experience managing complex projects with multiple milestones, deadlines, and stakeholders

  • Experience with customer/user relationship management

  • Ability to delegate tasks to ensure execution of complex projects with little supervision

  • Comfort with public speaking

  • US citizenship and ability to acquire a security clearance


Desired Qualifications:

  • Deployments in support of the US government or military

  • Experience participating in multinational partner exercises with the US government or military

  • Overseas work experience

  • BA/BS/MS in foreign affairs, history, area studies, political science, governmental studies, national security, or a related field

  • Knowledge of FreeMarker Template Language (FTL), HTML, or Java

  • Fluency in a language other than English

  • A security clearance

Compensation: The expected initial salary for this role is $72,000 annually. Actual compensation may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, job-related knowledge and skills, education, experience, certifications, geographic location, and organizational needs. Individual compensation will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
