Payroll Specialist
Position Title: Payroll Specialist
Location: Gainesville, VA (Onsite)
Assignment Type: Permanent Hire
Compensation: $75,000 – $80,000 / Annually
Work Schedule: M-F 9-5
Benefits: This position is eligible for Medical, Dental, Vision, and 401(k)
Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to join a collaborative HR team and take ownership of the full-cycle payroll process. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely payroll for a large, multi-state employee population, while maintaining compliance with all applicable regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process full-cycle, multi-state payroll on a weekly basis for a large employee population
- Review and reconcile payroll data, including timesheets, earnings, and deductions
- Manage payroll discrepancies and perform regular reconciliations with the general ledger
- Administer garnishments, levies, and other wage-related deductions in compliance with regulations
- Handle federal and state payroll tax filings and ensure timely reporting
- Support year-end payroll activities, including W-2s and 1099s
- Generate and analyze payroll reports to support internal decision-making
- Conduct payroll audits to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Respond to employee payroll inquiries and provide clear, professional communication
- Assist with payroll system updates and process improvements
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of full-cycle payroll experience
- Experience processing multi-state payroll for large employee populations (400+ employees)
- Strong knowledge of payroll taxes, garnishments, and compliance regulations
- Experience with payroll systems (UKG Ready preferred)
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Ability to communicate effectively across various employee groups
- Team-oriented with a proactive and dependable work style
