Maintenance Worker – Recreation and Parks

The City of Falls Church, VA is recruiting for a Maintenance Worker in the Recreation and Parks Department. This is full-time work with the Parks crew, including repairs to, painting of, and general cleaning of playground equipment and facilities, planning and completion of small construction projects in relation to all parks and facilities within the City of Falls Church Recreation and Parks Department.
Responsibilities:
- Installs amenities such as signs, grills, picnic tables, fence (chain link and split rail), basketball rims and nets, tennis poles, nets, etc.
- Performs tree maintenance duties. Operates chain saws.
- Remove snow from sidewalks with hand shovels and blowers.
- Occasionally performs routine custodial maintenance and repairs to park buildings and structures.
- Pick up ground litter, collect, and dispose of litter and trash.
Qualifications:
- Experience in maintenance work preferred, especially in the areas outlined above
- Able to work outdoors for extended periods under all weather conditions, to include extremely hot summer weather as well as perform snow and ice removal during winter
- Good driving record
- Satisfactory pre-employment physical, drug screen, and background check
Special Requirements:
- Must report to work in and wear steel-toed safety shoes of an acceptable standard at all times on the job, effective first scheduled workday.
- Commercial Driver’s License (class B) or ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire
Hours: 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with ability to work weekends, holidays and special events.
Salary or Salary & Benefits: $48,000 annually plus a $200 safety shoe allowance.
