Electric Distribution Superintendent (Danville)

Schedules and supervises activities pertaining to construction, installation, and maintenance of the electric transmission and distribution system, and assures this work is done in a safe and timely manner. Receives work orders from engineering sections and emergency orders from dispatch to schedule daily work for service crews, line crews and right of way crews and contract crews including overhead line crews, underground line crews, right of way crews; and assuring all crews and personnel have proper equipment to perform their tasks safely. Assists the engineering section with construction and planning; assists the substation with construction and maintenance; manages restoration of large power outage situations.

The essential functions of the job are not limited to those listed in the job description. The City retains the discretion to add to or change the duties of the position at any time.
- Schedules work for line crews by reviewing all outstanding work orders and any pending outages and scheduling maintenance work; establishing priorities and assessing required equipment and personnel to perform the job; and assigning work to the crews to complete the tasks.
- Prepares and manages the budget by preparing the annual budget for the Line section and assuring all annual needs of the sections are met while holding down the cost; and assuring no budget overruns occur.
- Manages personnel by administering City’s personnel policy to insure all employees follow the policies and are treated fairly
- Manages training and safety by administering the lineman training program through coordination with Virginia Maryland Delaware Association of Electrical Cooperatives; and coordinating other training efforts through vendors and other resources.
- Maintains knowledge of the distribution system by reviewing all switching procedures, line extensions and feeder loads to allow decisions to be made in emergency situations so services can be restored in a timely and efficient manner.
- Manages tools and equipment by assuring all tools and equipment required to perform a task in a safe and timely manner are available and in proper working order.

Education and Experience
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the specific requirements listed above Certifications/Licenses
Associate’s Degree, with knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative or technical nature, from a college, vocational or technical school, and five to seven years of experience.Valid Driver’s License (CDL Class C) with acceptable driving record according to City Criteria

Manages, monitors and directs work performance of subordinate supervisors, makes final decisions on hiring, discipline, performance evaluation, setting program/work objectives and realigns work and staffing as needed. -
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Work requires light physical effort, exerting up to 20 lbs. occasionally, 10 lbs. frequently, or negligible amounts constantly OR requires walking or standing to a significant degree

- Responsible for appropriate use and maintenance of City equipment, tools and other resources, including work time.
- Regular and predictable attendance is expected.
- May experience frequent time pressure, change of tasks, performing multiple tasks simultaneously, and working closely with others as part of a team.
- May experience occasional emergency situations, irregular work schedule/overtime, tedious or exacting work, and noisy/distracting environment.
MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT, SOFTWARE AND HARDWARE
Typically requires use of standard office equipment, including computer and related hardware and software, and any other equipment as appropriate or required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work is typically performed in an office setting, primarily at a desk in a quiet environment. The employee is not exposed to environmental hazards.
There may be occasional visits to job sites, where the employee may be exposure to environmental hazards, and is expected to use appropriate protective equipment for the assigned task (hard hat, safety vest, steel toe shoes, etc.); and any other equipment as apparent or assigned.
