We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Writer/Trainer to support enterprise-level geospatial systems and infrastructure within a federal environment. This role is critical to the maintenance, administration, and performance optimization of GIS platforms, databases, and web applications. The successful candidate will demonstrate deep technical expertise in ArcGIS Enterprise technologies, scripting and automation, and high-availability system design—all within virtualized or cloud-hosted environments.

Salary range: $75000-$105000 annually

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Write, edit, and maintain technical documentation including user guides, system manuals, training materials, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and system architecture documentation.
  • Capture and document business rules, workflows, and system processes to support operational needs.
  • Ensure all materials are accurate, up-to-date, and accessible to intended audiences.
  • Maintain accuracy and currency of technical content throughout the lifecycle of systems and applications.
  • Develop and deliver training programs, workshops, and user guides to enhance knowledge transfer for technical and non-technical staff.
  • Conduct knowledge transfer sessions and capture lessons learned for organizational use.
  • Assess training needs and tailor instructional content to meet stakeholder requirements.
  • Provide role-based and compliance-related training to ensure personnel readiness.
  • Prepare clear, structured reports, presentations, and communication materials to support system operations, compliance, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Support change management by creating release notes, version histories, and user-facing documentation.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure technical information is communicated effectively and consistently.
  • Maintain version control of all documentation and training assets.
  • Ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency of written materials through peer reviews and adherence to quality standards.
  • Support transition and exit planning by producing complete turnover packages of documentation, training materials, and operational knowledge.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, Communications, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Proven experience writing and maintaining technical documentation such as manuals, SOPs, or training guides.
  • Experience developing and delivering training for technical systems, applications, or processes.
  • Ability to analyze complex technical processes and translate them into clear, user-friendly materials.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency with documentation and publishing tools (e.g., MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, SharePoint, or similar).
  • Knowledge of IT compliance standards and accessibility best practices is desirable.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required security clearance and complete mandatory training.
