Location: Quantico, VA
University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) seeks adjunct faculty to teach on-site at Quantico, VA, in the Operations program. Specifically, we are seeking faculty for the following course(s):
Foundations of Project Management (PMAN 634):
An overview of the theory and practice of managing projects in any organization or industry using traditional, agile, and hybrid methodologies. All three skill sets of the Project Management Institute Talent Triangle are addressed: Technical Project Management, Leadership, and Strategic and Business Management and provide a foundational project management knowledge and skill base that is highly relevant to workplace project challenges.
Project Schedule, Cost, and Resource Management (PMAN 635):
An in-depth coverage of the logical and conceptual progression of a project from scope to schedule and budget, developed in the context of traditional project management, and then adapted to the agile and hybrid approaches. Aspects of resource management that relate to schedule and cost are also addressed. Emphasis is on cultivating practical and workplace-relevant skills, tools, and techniques essential for effectively estimating, modeling, and managing schedule and budget, and for addressing the associated uncertainties, imperatives, and challenges encountered in real-life projects.
Project Uncertainty, Risk, Ambiguity, and Complexity (PMAN 637):
An in-depth exploration of project uncertainty and its manifestations in project risks/opportunities, ambiguity, and complexity. Includes comprehensive coverage of risk/opportunity in both the traditional and agile contexts - identification, qualitative and quantitative analysis, responses, and monitoring.
Project Stakeholder Communications Management (PMAN 638):
A study of essential soft skills for managing and leading projects to create value and align with organizational goals. The focus is on driving innovation, fostering motivated teams, engaging stakeholders, resolving conflicts, and managing remote and virtual teams. Topics include emotional intelligence, cultural awareness, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG). Applications include traditional, agile, and hybrid project environments with globally dispersed teams.
Project Management Quality (PMAN 639):
An applied study of the quality management policies, processes, and procedures required to ensure that projects satisfy customers and stakeholders. Emphasis is on process improvement and quality planning, assurance, and control to effectively manage customer satisfaction, promote prevention over inspection, and facilitate continuous improvement.
Required Education and Experience:
Master's degree in Project Management, Operations, or a related field from an accredited institution of higher learning.
Professional experience in Project Management or related field.
Project Management Professional (PMP) certificate or extensive project management experience
Experience teaching adult learners online and in higher education is strongly preferred.
This position is designated to teach on-site at Quantico, VA.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Terminal degree in Management, Operations, or a related field of learning.

The Adjunct Faculty Role at UMGC:

Your role as an adjunct faculty member will be to:
- Actively engage students through frequent interaction that motivates them to succeed, and conveys a genuine energy and enthusiasm for their learning.
- Guide students in active collaboration and the application of their learning in problem- and project-based learning demonstrations.
- Provide rich and regular constructive feedback, utilizing rubrics effectively for the assessment of student work, and acknowledging student accomplishments.
- Demonstrate relevant and current subject-matter expertise, and help students connect concepts across their academic program.
- Provide feedback to your program chair on possible curricular improvements.
