Job Title: Construction Superintendent / Project Manager – Restaurant Construction

Job Description

This position is an owner-side field leadership role responsible for leading construction projects and day-to-day job-site execution for restaurant construction, remodels, and capital improvement projects. The Construction Superintendent / Project Manager ensures that all work is performed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with company standards while serving as the primary on-site representative. This role is well suited for an experienced Superintendent or Field Construction Manager who wants to move into an owner-side position, gain broader exposure across projects, and build a long-term career while staying closely connected to the field.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee day-to-day job-site execution for restaurant construction, remodels, and capital improvement projects.
  • Serve as the primary on-site representative, ensuring all work aligns with company standards, project goals, and quality expectations.
  • Manage construction activities in a hands-on manner, maintaining accountability for project execution and outcomes.
  • Coordinate and communicate with general contractors, trade partners, and internal stakeholders to keep projects on schedule and within scope.
  • Ensure all work is performed safely, enforcing site safety practices and compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Review, interpret, and apply blueprints, construction drawings, specifications, and engineering documents throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Monitor progress in the field, identify issues or risks, and implement timely solutions to keep projects moving forward.
  • Support planning and scheduling of construction activities for restaurant new builds, remodels, and facilities-related improvements.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation and communicate status updates to leadership and project stakeholders.
  • Act as a key liaison between the field and the office, ensuring effective information flow and alignment on priorities.

Essential Skills

  • At least 5 years of experience as a Project Manager within commercial construction in a general contractor or owner’s representative environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in retail or restaurant construction or facilities maintenance.
  • Proven ability to read blueprints and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and engineering documents.
  • Hands-on field leadership experience as a Construction Superintendent or Field Construction Manager.
  • Strong understanding of commercial construction processes and job-site operations.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects or phases while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and efficiency.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Back ground in restaurant construction, remodels, and capital improvement projects.
  • Experience working on the owner side of construction projects or interest in transitioning to an owner-side role.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with facilities teams and operations stakeholders.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills to work closely with field teams and office-based staff.
  • Desire to build a long-term career while remaining closely connected to field operations.

Work Environment

This role operates within a lean, collaborative team where field leadership and accountability are highly valued. The position is primarily based out of the Fairfax, VA location, functioning largely as a Project Manager while also spending time on active job sites as needed. The work environment blends office-based project management responsibilities with periodic on-site presence at restaurant construction, remodel, and capital improvement projects. The role involves regular use of construction documents such as blueprints, specifications, and engineering drawings, as well as coordination with contractors, facilities personnel, and internal stakeholders to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality project delivery.

This is a Permanent position based out of Gainesville, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $120000.00 - $160000.00/yr.

Great American Restaurants is seeking an experienced Construction & Facilities Project Manager to lead construction projects and support ongoing facilities maintenance for our growing company. This hands-on field role oversees daily jobsite activity, coordinates contractors, monitors progress and quality, and ensures all work meets GAR standards. The position also supports the Repairs & Maintenance (R&M) program to ensure that construction and maintenance activities are executed efficiently and maintain the highest level of operational readiness.
