Surgical Technologist (CVOR)
A 500+ bed acute care hospital in Salem is seeking a Certified Surgical Technologist to join its Cardiovascular Operating Room team. The facility is recognized for its advanced heart and vascular services and provides a wide range of specialty care, including orthopedics, spine, behavioral health, and oncology.
Position Overview
The CVOR Surgical Technologist plays an essential role in supporting cardiovascular surgical procedures, including open heart cases. Working closely with surgeons, nurses, and anesthesia providers, this position is responsible for maintaining a sterile surgical environment, preparing instrumentation and supplies, and assisting throughout procedures to promote safe, efficient patient care.
This role requires strong technical skills, knowledge of cardiovascular surgical instrumentation, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced operating room environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Scrub and assist during cardiovascular surgical procedures, including open heart cases
• Prepare and organize surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies for procedures
• Maintain sterile technique and ensure the integrity of the surgical field throughout each case
• Anticipate surgeon needs and provide appropriate instrumentation during procedures
• Assist with room setup, turnover, and preparation for upcoming cases
• Monitor and maintain surgical equipment to ensure proper function and availability
• Communicate effectively with surgeons, nurses, anesthesia providers, and support staff
• Adhere to hospital policies, safety standards, and infection prevention protocols
• Support efficient operating room workflow and patient care delivery
Qualifications
• Successful completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program required or qualification under applicable state grandfather provisions
• Current Surgical Technician registration/license with the State of Virginia required
• BLS certification required within 90 days of employment
• Minimum of 1 year of cardiovascular scrub experience required
• Previous hospital or surgical scrub experience preferred
• Knowledge of surgical instrumentation and medical terminology required
• Basic computer skills required
• Strong communication, teamwork, and customer service skills required
• Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including prolonged standing, bending, lifting, and moving equipment or patients up to 50 pounds

Schedule
• Full-time position
• Day shifts with rotating weekends
• Shift options include 6:00 AM–2:30 PM or 9:00 AM–5:30 PM
• On-call participation required
