Network Design Engineer, Network Infrastructure Design & Deployment

Amazon Data Services, Inc.
Herndon, VA

DESCRIPTION

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a fast-paced technology company and a leader in the world of data centers. We are currently expanding our Network Infrastructure Design & Deployment (NIDD) team within Amazon Dedicated Cloud (ADC) and are looking for a proven subject matter expert (SME) with experience in designing and planning copper and fiber network solutions, cabling pathways and vision to take AWS Data Centers to the next level. The successful candidate for this role will create detailed pathway and cabling designs, drive process improvements and adhere to industry and AWS specific standards.

The mission of the team is to deliver network capacity on time with zero rework. The Network design and planning SME will manage the planning phase of cable pathways and passive network solutions.

This role will be based out of a corporate office and remote sites; international and domestic travel may be required up to 25% of the time. This role requires specific US clearance.

At AWS, we're revolutionizing the design of critical communications pathways, spaces, and cabling within our data centers. We're looking for innovative people who can continue raising the bar for our ICT design, accelerating our time to market, and who have a desire for professional growth and continuous learning.

This position requires that the candidate selected be a US Citizen and must currently possess and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph.

Key job responsibilities
In this role, you’ll work with engineers and managers company-wide to develop solutions for the physical layer. Your responsibilities will include developing pathway, space, and cabling designs, along with specifications for construction and permitting. Additionally, you’ll engage with industry suppliers and manufacturers to define product requirements and explore emerging technologies.

Ensure timely delivery of scalable fibre optic & copper plant designs and specifications.
Review and approve of ICT pathway, cabling and equipment submittals.

Identify and respond to risks and high-priority issues rapidly and effectively.
Support new technology and design activities that improve infrastructure quality, reduce cost and installation time.

Travel 20+% to review projects and coordinate with onsite personnel and contractors at AWS' Data Centers

Conduct quality assurance audits at project sites, collaborate with project managers and contractors, and implement corrective actions to resolve issues.

You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. If your career is just starting, hasn’t followed a traditional path, or includes alternative experiences, don’t let it stop you from applying.

We value work-life harmony. Achieving success at work should never come at the expense of sacrifices at home, which is why we strive for flexibility as part of our working culture. When we feel supported in the workplace and at home, there’s nothing we can’t achieve in the cloud.

Here at AWS, it’s in our nature to learn and be curious. Our employee-led affinity groups foster a culture of inclusion that empower us to be proud of our differences.
