Incumbents who meet the minimum experience and training requirements will start at $54,860 annually. Journeymen who have completed an apprenticeship program registered by the Department of Labor or equivalent will start at $55,692 annually. Proof of completion of a registered Department of Labor Apprenticeship Program and Journeyman status must be submitted at the time of filing the Employment Application or upon request.
This position is selected for the Hiring Incentive Program. The incentive shall be in the amount of three thousand dollars ($3000.00) upon completion of the probationary period. The hiring incentive will be paid (if funds are available) by the Department/Division which appoints the applicant. The hiring incentive is not available to current City employees.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
● Troubleshoot high/low voltage electrical circuits and equipment.
● Install street light poles, light fixtures, cameras, traffic signals and various other electrical equipment.
● Troubleshoot, repair and replace various low/high voltage equipment, conduit and wiring.
● Perform overhead work in an aerial truck.
● Maintain the City’s street lighting, traffic signal, fiber and camera infrastructure.
● Participate in emergency on call rotation.
● Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
● Data Utilization: Requires the ability to perform mid-level data analysis including the ability to audit, deduce, assess, conclude and appraise. Requires discretion in determining and referencing such to established criteria to define consequences and develop alternatives.
● Human Interaction: Requires the ability to provide assistance to others, such as co-workers, on how to apply policies, procedures and standards to specific situations.
● Equipment, Machinery, Tools and Materials Use: Requires the ability to operate, calibrate, tune and synchronize, and perform complex rapid adjustment on equipment, machinery and tools such as bucket truck, circuit tester/tracer, multimeter, electrician hand and power tools, common hand tools, compressor, pipe threader, welding equipment, trencher, cable puller, saws, hydraulic lifts, hoist, shop bench tools, jacks, overhead crane, carpenter’s tools, and/or related materials used in performing essential functions.
● Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a variety of reference, descriptive and advisory data and information such as electrical blueprints, architectural drawings, schematics, work orders, work schedules, accident reports, electrical codes, supply inventories, technical operating manuals, materials safety data sheets, procedures, guidelines and non-routine correspondence.
● Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; calculate percentages, fractions and decimals; calculate area and volume; may require the ability to perform mathematical operations involving basic geometry or trigonometry.
● Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to apply principles of rational systems. Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic or schedule form. Ability to exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards to meet variations in assigned objectives.
● Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise the judgment, decisiveness and creativity required in situations involving the evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria.
● Environmental Factors: Tasks may risk exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents and traffic hazards.
● Physical Requirements: Requires the ability to lift, push and pull over one-hundred (100) pounds to repair and replace electrical equipment such as stringing wires, and installing conduit, motors and other equipment. Requires the ability to stoop, crouch, crawl, balance, climb, bend and twist to install electrical equipment, climb poles, operate bucket trucks, using ladders and tools.
● Sensory Requirements: Requires the ability to recognize and identify similarities or differences between characteristics of colors, shapes, sounds and odors associated with job-related objects, materials and tasks. Incumbents are required to identify colors of wires, sounds and odors to determine proper operation of motors, and clearly distinguish shapes from far and close range.
