We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Software Systems Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will define, document, test, and validate complex software systems, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and scalability. This role requires a deep understanding of system architecture, software integration, and a passion for solving challenging technical problems in a collaborative environment. This is a full-time, exempt, non-supervisory position is based in our Falls Church, VA office.

Experiences and Background We Look For (Required Skills):
- MUST hold an active Top-Secret clearance and be eligible and willing to obtain an SCI clearance (which will include a polygraph)
- Experience as a Scrum master, who can hold efficient daily stand-ups, maintain multiple Jira Boards, and can provide bi-weekly status reports to customers
- Create and maintain detailed software documentation to include, but not limited to, release notes, user guides, training material, and troubleshooting procedures
- Develop detailed test plans and procedures, ensuring they could be run by a novice user
- Responsible for identifying and updating data keys and training data sets
- Execute all phases and types (manual/automated) of testing: user story testing, end-to-end testing, regression testing of releases, and performance testing
- Create automated test scripts (in python) and integrate automated test suite as part of each pull request utilizing a software package called Squish (we will provide Squish training)
- Document findings, generate test reports, and present results to stakeholders.
- Track all internal and external bugs and DRs
- Candidates will play an active role in troubleshooting software failures amongst a diverse team of engineers and technicians.
- Partner with software developers and internal stakeholders to plan, coordinate, and execute testing and release efforts
- Degree background: Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science
Nice To Have (Preferred Skill):
- Experience with the Agile process and can utilize Confluence and JIRA
- Interest in being a Scrum Master
- Familiarity with Squish/Jenkins/GIT (or a willingness to learn)
- Basic knowledge and experience with C++/Python
- Assist in the development of requirements derivation and traceability
- Involvement with systems integration, test, and performance verification within the IC
The salary for this role, depending on degree and experience, is:
Staff Engineer: $120,000 - $150,000 [minimum experience of BS+5 years, MS+3 years, or PhD+0 years]
Senior Engineer : $125,00 - $175,000 [minimum experience of BS+9 years, MS+7 years, or PhD+4 years]
However, Arete considers several factors when extending an offer of employment, including but not limited to the position and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, education/training, and key skills.
