MHI Ship Repair & Services is a major marine repair and conversion contractor serving the U.S. Navy, Military Sealift Command, Maritime Administration and Commercial ship owners and operators worldwide. Our shipyard is conveniently located in the Mid-Atlantic region at the port of Hampton Roads, Norfolk Virginia.
JOB SUMMARY: Assists the Quality Assurance Manager, oversees the administration of quality assurance programs, oversees the NDT program, and executes MHI department policies, procedures and PCP's. Provides guidance and counsel to Quality Assurance Specialists and NDT personnel on compliance and other employee relation issues. Ensures adequate distribution of quality assurance specialist and NDT personnel to cover current jobs and advises MHI QA Manager on the need for additional staffing requirements. Ensure proper record keeping requirements are met and maintained. Assists with quality non-conformity requests. This person will be responsible for ensuring all quality inspections and requirements are covered, including weekends and holidays and needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Oversee administration of quality assurance programs and executes MHI department policies and procedures. Drafts specific quality procedures for government contracts (PCP's) (as required).
- Reply to customer quality non-conformity requests.
- Ensures proper record keeping requirements are met and maintained to include compiling and maintaining High Level metrics data.
- Directly supervise the activities of the Quality Assurance Specialists and NDT personnel. Provides guidance and counsel to quality assurance staff on compliance and ensures safety standards and good housekeeping practices are maintained.
- Works with the Production Manager and Superintendents to ensure all personnel are positioned appropriately to cover current jobs. Ensures adequate staffing levels.
- Maintains good employee relations practices within the department and takes corrective action as required.
- Establishes accountabilities and goals used for performance evaluation and conducts training as needed.
- Works closely with the NDT Level III and maintains the NDT program.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of four years’ experience in Quality Assurance with increasing supervisory responsibilities.
- NDT Level II in a minimum of 2 techniques required, preferably VT, PT, MT and/or UT.
- AMPP, NACE or SSPC certification required.
- Knowledge of ISO-9000-2000 Quality Management System requirements.
- Knowledge of private sector ship repair and U.S. Navy Fleet Maintenance (including NAVSEA Standard items) is a plus.
- Strong organizational skills and high level of analytical ability where problems are complex
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
- Team building and strong leadership skills.
- High level of computer skills and full working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook is a must.
