Sales Engineer / Sales Manager – Advanced Manufacturing
Primary Work Location: Fredericksburg, VA (On-site/Hybrid)
Clearance: Ability to obtain a clearance up to Top Secret if later needed

Job Summary
Applied Rapid Technologies (ART), a leader in rapid prototyping and advanced manufacturing services, is seeking a technically skilled and business-savvy Sales Engineer / Sales Manager to drive customer engagement, expand business opportunities, and support cutting-edge technology development. This hybrid role blends technical acumen with sales leadership, supporting both revenue generation and internal innovation efforts including SBIR/OTA proposal development and prototype engineering.
Specific Responsibilities:
Business Development & Sales Management
- Develop and execute strategic sales plans to grow ART’s presence in commercial and government markets.
- Identify and engage new clients in defense, aerospace, industrial, and medical sectors.
- Cultivate long-term relationships with key accounts by understanding customer requirements and offering tailored solutions.
- Prepare and present technical sales proposals, quotes, and capability briefings.
- Manage the sales pipeline and contribute to monthly and quarterly sales forecasting.
Technical Pre-Sales & Estimating
- Serve as a technical liaison between engineering, production, and the customer—translating complex design requirements into manufacturable solutions.
- Lead the estimating process for 3D printing, CNC machining, urethane casting, and other rapid manufacturing services.
- Collaborate with engineering staff to ensure feasibility, pricing accuracy, and timely delivery commitments.
Technology Development & Product Support
- Support the design, prototyping, and refinement of customer products using additive manufacturing and traditional methods.
- Provide engineering input on materials, print orientations, post-processing, and DfAM (Design for Additive Manufacturing) best practices.
- Interface with production teams to resolve technical issues and improve manufacturability.
Proposal Development – SBIR/OTA/DoD Contracts
- Collaborate on technical proposal development for SBIR, STTR, OTA, and other government R&D funding opportunities.
- Provide market intelligence, customer insights, and technical input for proposal narratives and cost estimates.
- Track federal solicitations and support the identification of opportunities aligned with ART’s capabilities
Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field.
- 3+ years of combined experience in technical sales, engineering, or advanced manufacturing.
- Proven ability to manage customer accounts, generate quotes, and close deals in a B2B environment.
- Working knowledge of additive manufacturing processes (FDM, SLA, SLS, etc.), materials, and 3D CAD tools.
- Experience in creating or contributing to SBIR/OTA or government technical proposals.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.
Desired Skills and Experience:
- Prior experience in a sales or applications engineering role in the manufacturing sector.
- Familiarity with government acquisition and R&D funding mechanisms (DoD, NNSA, NASA, DHS, etc.).
- Ability to read technical drawings and interpret complex customer requirements.
- CRM and quoting software experience (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot, ERP systems).
